There is an article in The Athletic today about who might be on the trading block with the Oct. 31 trade deadline approaching.
They nominate Jaylon Johnson for the Bears. They note that Poles has been drafting defensive backs and not given Johnson an extension.
Do you think it will happen?
Poles has traded Mack, Smith, and Montgomery. So there is some history there.
It's been pretty evident Poles operates like any modern GM in that he is not tied to any former picks from the previous regime. JJ hasn't exactly excelled at creating turnovers, which is what he needs to do to get the bag.

Yes, it is very evident. As for Johnson, it’s not easy to create turnovers when the opponent’s OC is targeting the Bears weak corner on the other side of the field. Happens all the time. He’s taking care of business pretty well on his side. He has an outstanding 80 PFF grade this season.
draft profile on JJ was he was a man-man press cb, who's now asked to play soft zone. He just isn't a good fit for what he's being asked to do. Another reason why you don't want to keep shuffling through GM's and HC's.

This damn “soft zone” is the problem, not the solution. Get rid of Eberflus and his defense, not our best CB.
Bears sit back in soft zone on third down and concede too many first downs. Opponents are converting at 57% rate — worst in NFL. I want press coverage and contest the catch.

just like every other fan, the Bears don't care what you want. But this is another reason I didn't want Eberflus when I heard he ran a Lovie style def. I prefer man coverage also. But like you, the Bears owners, President, GM don't care.
If the team continues to falter, I'm not against firing Flus, but you do NOT want to continue rotating through gm's/coaches/players, it does no team any good.

TBH, we need to be playing far less soft zone and far more man-to-man since blitzing is the only way we are able to get pressure on the QB.
I understand what Poles did last year. It was a teardown season. But eventually you need to retain GOOD PLAYERS. And JJ is a good player. Not elite, but he's a good starter.
Poles needs to re-sign him this March commensurate with his injury history.

+1,000 I was thinking that I could just see the Bears move on from Eberflus at the end of this season - AFTER having made major roster adjustments for his coaching staff, and then the new coaching staff coming in needing to get rid of those players to get yet more players to fit THEIR new schemes.
How do you ever build a winning team when you are in this death-cycle of: hire new coaches, flush roster, acquire new roster, fire coaches and start it all over again (and endlessly repeat the this)? You can't. It's just taking two steps forward and two steps back. You're going nowhere.

If you get it right, you don’t have to rotate. But I don’t want to stand pat with a losing hand —- another fan want they don’t care about.

ya and that's how you constantly have a losing hand. B/c the roster built was for something completely different then what's coming in, and you spend 1-2 years getting rid of all that, and by year 3 you've barely gotten what you need and are already on the hot seat.
You cannot spend a year tearing down to replenish picks and FA just to flush what you have and start over again. It's a very Bears like move; and the reason they've spent the better part of 60 years irrelevant.
