Okay, I will take a sip of the kool-aid in hopes my 7-10 wins and 27ppg prediction happens. It is based on the idea that the offense can carry the defense in some of these games and Fields will play like Hurts did last year.
I also predict it begins with beating the Vikings. I am fairly confident the Bears will win this one, especially if Jefferson is out.
Personally, I am willing to throw the first three games out and begin judging Fields and the offense beginning with the Denver Broncos game. I am isolating on the offense because I figure the D is a train wreck this season, and so is the overall team. But for me personally, I am wanting to know what we have (or fail to have) in Justin Fields. I completely understand there are coaching and talent issues with the O roster, but I do feel like there is enough talent (barely enough) to watch Fields and make a personal "eye test" as to how good he can be for the Bears if we keep him - and of course add the talent on that O roster in 2024 and 2025.
The defense is a whole other can of worms that I'm not opening this year. It is a cesspool.
Brax, Jenkins, [new center], Davis, Wright. Then take Harrison, Jr. with the #1 pick and this offense would be damn good. I think Fields would be pretty good in this environment, although Poles might trade away the #1 pick again and spend it mostly on defense.

If they do keep Fields then I'd love to see Harrison and the best C they can get in this draft - probably a 2nd round pick and no lower than that. They need a TE to pair with Kmet too. Tonyan is on a 1-year deal and is not the answer here... at least I don't think so.
I was reading his pre-draft profile after seeing your post. It sounds like a physical guy who can block as well as catch. With his size he sounds like a "tweaner" between a WR and TE.
I did find this regarding when he was on the Giants:
LINK "Johnson doesn’t have the speed of many of the receivers on the Giants roster. He ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at his 2020 Pro Day. At 6-foot-6 and 222 pounds, though, Johnson boasts size, strength and physicality no true wide receiver on the roster can match.
“I’m super confident in my skillset, just being a bigger receiver,” Johnson said. “I feel like I’m really good at third-and-5 or third-and-8, whatever, I can get to the sticks and feel like the DB can know my route and I can still create enough separation and use my body to catch the ball and continue to move the chains.
“Beating man-to-man coverage and also my ability to catch like jump balls and using my body control and length to do that.”"

This is the ideal scenario for the offense, but then we’re mostly kicking the can down the road with the defense, unless some of them start playing better.

Watching Fields struggle w/Mooney, and how they went out to get Claypool, I'm guessing Fields likes the GUAGI guys. Guy does need to learn how to run a good route though, kind of sounds like he doesn't think its necessary.

And I am okay with that. I really am. Building a good defense (good, not elite) is child's-play compared with building a great offense. Bears have built countless good, and even great defenses over the years. But offense? They have failed for decades, and in today's NFL if you don't have a solid offense you have nothing. We have certainly seen that ad nauseam. Get the offense right here now. So tired of the failure there.
