You know, they do make some good points here. I don't know if they can turn the season around, but at least there should be better football ahead. Not saying anything great will happen, but I could see the team settle down now and play better. We have 12 games left. I could definitely see the team winning 5 or 6 of those games and I could see Fields making significant strides with his own game, now that Getsy seems willing to let the guy play to his strengths.
Okay, I will take a sip of the kool-aid in hopes my 7-10 wins and 27ppg prediction happens. It is based on the idea that the offense can carry the defense in some of these games and Fields will play like Hurts did last year.
Fields and the O is by far the more important metric but I agree the D has been a disappointment. I'm particularly down on Tremaine Edmunds. This guy has done nothing thus far to justify the contract he received.

None of the defensive players Poles acquired have been very impressive. That’s the problem.

But we are not even sure how the defensive scheme is. We can't honestly say the D draftees suck as we are seeing glaring holes in this defense. The players could be good, just not used right.
There are so many question marks regarding the players vs the coaching schemes.
So far I am a bit upset at this Flus defense. It is stuck in the 90's.

I wouldn't go that far. Yannick has been fine and as expected. Dexter is starting to come on as a rookie. Stevenson same thing--he's gonna be good after getting thru the rookie growing pains. Billings is a stud and was a great find for a modest price.
DeMarcus Walker and Edmunds have been a let-down thus far.
We all knew the D was gonna be shaky and the DL would be a weakness. With the secondary wrecked with injuries, it was a shit show. Now that we are getting some DBs back, Flus needs to get this D up to #20 or so over the last 11 games.

Not a fan of Flus' Cover-2 either. He finally showed he could adapt and blitz last game and he needs to dial that up again this Sunday with Jefferson out.
The DL isn't good enough to get home on their own so take some chances, especially if the O continues to show growth like it has.
And I could see one other way this COULD play out. If Fields can significantly improve, but the Bears decide to draft a QB (that could be one way this ends up) then at least the Bears should be able to trade Fields for a decent return. If Eberflus is fired at the end of the season, the new HC would then be able to have input on his QB who will be drafted.
Plan-A is definitely Fields proving to be the guy. But the team can still have a decent Plan-B if Fields improves quite a bit this season. We should have the remaining draft power to upgrade the offense significantly, even if we do draft a QB. A top-tier C is not that hard to get, right? We would still have a 1st (high first) round draft pick to use - and overall we have 10 draft picks that will be very high each round of the entire draft. We just need the GM to prioritize the offense next draft. The resources are there. Just use them.
Way too early to worry about it now, but yeah Carolina looks awful and Bryce Young is struggling. That Carolina pick is gonna be top-5 almost for sure and has a good shot to become #1 overall, especially with the other teams in the NFCS looking better than anticipated.
If Fields can establish himself as a top-10 QB and rising star the next 11 games, we are in the catbird's seat. That #1 pick is going to command a king's ransom this year due to Caleb Williams. We will easily fleece some team in trade--picks plus a player again.
I really really hope Fields proves he's the man. Could you imagine if Chi has a franchise QB and then parlay another one pick? They would be a great set up for a possible dynasty like the Dallas' Hershel Walker trade.

I also predict it begins with beating the Vikings. I am fairly confident the Bears will win this one, especially if Jefferson is out.
Personally, I am willing to throw the first three games out and begin judging Fields and the offense beginning with the Denver Broncos game. I am isolating on the offense because I figure the D is a train wreck this season, and so is the overall team. But for me personally, I am wanting to know what we have (or fail to have) in Justin Fields. I completely understand there are coaching and talent issues with the O roster, but I do feel like there is enough talent (barely enough) to watch Fields and make a personal "eye test" as to how good he can be for the Bears if we keep him - and of course add the talent on that O roster in 2024 and 2025.
The defense is a whole other can of worms that I'm not opening this year. It is a cesspool.

And that is a good point there. riczaj01 (at least I think it was Ric) made the point in the past that the old Lovie defense needed elite talent, or near-elite talent to work. You really have to pump your best resources into that side of the ball and let your offense suck. Remember, how Lovie would tell us how the D needed to do the scoring? LOL, I mean, how dysfunctional was that? Right now we don't even have average talent (overall) on defense. The result of that is what you see on gamedays, a pitiful defense.
I get it, that a good team has to have some balance of talent. You can't completely suck on one unit and be successful. You do need a good defense. But I sure don't want a defense that requires all the best talent funneled to that unit, while the offense has the usual crappy talent we have seen here for decades. I agree with 'ya that the Flus defense is stuck in the '90's and it is not a viable defense - it's not sustainable if you want the overall team to be good. JMO.

More to the point of misused, I could have sworn the reason we got J Johnson and E Jax were here based on the prev def based on Man coverage, not soft zone.
