Not how a QB or a team is going to react. This is real life team issues and relationships, not some theory class at the ivory tower.
Someone asks someone a question about your teammate your job is to support them. Urlacher and other supported Orton even after being traded saying Cutler better be damn good. That is how good teammates act.
+1 I totally agree, Ric. If you want to be the leader (and the QB should be) then you support your guys. Fields knows Claypool is a goner, soon now. And Fields will be fine with that. But he has to be seen as supportive of the guys in that locker room - or he will lose them. That's just how it works - as you say, "in real life."
What happens to a team when a team leader condones a player like Claypool? It says his conduct is acceptable. It is green light for other players to do and say the same as Claypool. The way for a leader to support Claypool is to talk to him privately but not criticize him publicly. I acknowledge that doesn’t always happen in reality.
The “shoulds” are real in their consequences. You should not get drunk and drive your car 125 mph. That is a should “based in reality.” In reality, people nonetheless do it. Likewise, in reality, Fields will support Claypool, but it does have consequences that matter. So does the Eberflus statement that Claypool CHOSE to stay home Sunday. He should not have said that. Players are taking note of what Fields and Eberflus are saying about Claypool.
What consequences are coming from Fields supporting him? None, stop your nonsense. Fields supporting his teammate has nothing to do w/drinking and driving; oddly enough you support a guy that did that and wish he was on the team though. Funny much like Claypool wrong time for that comment.
And Flus was countered by another person that clarified he was TOLD to stay home.
Yes, it was countered but players will not forget what Eberflus said. He threw Claypool under the bus. That undermines players’ trust in the coach to tell the truth about what happened.

The players are not worried about what Flus said regarding a guy no longer on his team. They are worried about his ability to coach, and he cannot so the team already doesn't trust him.
We also don't actually know WHICH story is true, but seeing as he was told he's not welcome in HH, my guess is he was given a choice(they had his locker set up) and he chose, poorly. But either way it doesn't matter b/c we actually don't know who gave him the choice, or if he had one. It's all a classic Bears, a mishandled mess. And that is why the Bears players aren't going to trust any of the coaches.

They should just cut him today and activate somebody off the practice squad for Thursday.

I'd try to get SOMETHING for him, even if it's not much (it won't be much). But get something. There are stupid teams out there (Bears are not the only one) that might toss a 7th round pick our way. Hey, take that. It's better than just cutting the guy.

Nobody except Raiders are that stupid. Just hope somebody will claim him on waivers, but I wouldn’t even bet on that. They have already tried to trade him. If anybody were interested, he would have been gone yesterday.😊
