I don't see Poles in the hot seat. I think the coaching staff is on the hot seat and suspect they are gone short a Lions type of comeback.

Poles may or may not have selected Flus. If you think back the Bears had all but settled on Flus and then hired Poles and claimed he had final say. They had already squandered precious time. Why didn't we interview the Dolphins HC if the search was so thorough.

Poles never committed to Fields. Last year he said he wanted to give Justin Fields every chance to succeed. I believe be did that by bringing him back this year. The way he negotiated the draft last year is even more genius now. He has 2 early first round picks a number 1 WR in DJ Moore and solid WR room along with young RB Johnson.

The two top QB prospects this year on paper are better than last years prospects, although CJ Stroud is looking like a keeper with over 300 yards average passing for first 3 games. First rookie QB to ever do this. Anyway Poles draft manueviring is even more genius if we land the QB of our liking while also determining Fields is not our future. Additionally he pushed the QB financial ticket down the road if we end up drafting another QB next year.

Below is a link on Caleb Willims vs Drake Maye who the experts believe will be studs. I have to believe Poles played this perfect and not in jeopardy.

I had forgotten that. But now that you bring it up, that is my recollection also. And of course the young Poles was willing to go along with that in order to get his GM opportunity here. People can criticize that but in the "real world" people will compromise to get a job. That's just how it sometimes works. It's not just a "football thing" but a real life thing.

As they put it: "it's not exactly worthy of a pay raise".

And I think we need to keep in mind that Poles chose Flus and has been enthusiastic about him. Its been only two years so I generally am inclined to give Poles the benefit of the doubt, but yeash he's had some real clunker moves thus far.

For example, how's that exchanging Roquan for Edmunds thing looking? Passing on Pickens? Was Dexter a wise choice?

I would give Poles benefit of doubt if I had a doubt. There is one way Poles could get lucky as hell: Bears go 3-14 again and draft Williams with #1 pick and Caleb is a super star QB. Poles will be hailed as a genius on this forum. I was just wondering, “Has any GM in NFL history EVER gotten #1 draft pick two years in a row?” Poles might make history.

There's a lot of great conversation in is thread. A lot to read. Many great points.

I'm in the camp of Poles not being fired, but the entire coaching staff will be. I do believe that Poles was saddled with Flus when he was hired. Poles has made mistakes like all rookie GMs do, but he's done well with the cap and while not complete - cleaning up the roster.

It's frustrating that Fields has fallen flat in his face, but I do think it's due to a lot of the play calling.

I was hoping to see an improvement in year two of the rebuild, but there's been a regression. This team is still under construction and isn't ready to compete as most fans have hoped.

I agree with all of that. And he certainly HAS made some real clunker moves. No question about that. He whiffed on Eberflus, but maybe he learned something there. I understand him backing Eberflus up to this point, unless he's ready to fire him now. But who do you put in charge for the next few months? I don't see anybody worthy of that. Getsy? No way. The other coordinator quit. So I think we're gonna have to ride this out and bring in an entirely new coaching staff at season's end.

Let's not forget Roquan didn't want to be here. He held out to start his rookie year, then he threatened to hold out again before his contract year and begged to be traded. He had some personality issues and his "agent" wasn't an official NFL agent but some crazy psychic guy or something. He's better off gone, but unfortunately we haven't replaced him with anyone of equal value or better.

If there's any type of coaching/management changes, there are a few commonalities that need to be addressed.

Analyze that :

A) The staff can utilize what they have, make adjustments to the qb's strength, and be tactically adroit enough to make halftime adjustments.

B) Players marked for being on the team MUST be known to study and if a QB- MUST be shown to be able to process the field. (Not sure why this is such a hard proposition).

C) Warren needs to get to the bottom of the cycles of repeating offensive failure, QB selection, and the repetition of this inflexibility of thought that produces bizarre repeating play calling.

D) Investing in the trenches. Both sides and also for quality of depth. It's been pitiful for years. (Very disappointed that a OL like Poles didn't make more strides).

I know there's more behind the scenes staff/culture that can be addressed but I'd be happy just to see some inroads.

Before the last two weeks CHGO has largely been singing Poles praises though...so I'm not really sure how to take that. Roquan didn't want to be here and acted like an ass during negotiations. I'm not gonna get all upset about that.
