- I hope you're correct on Warren having the proper authority a President of Football Ops should have. That's encouraging to hear. My guess as to why the McCaskeys may have finally taken that overdue step is that they're all in on getting stadium deal done. And Warren has little negotiating leverage as a figurehead and/or if the team is terrible.
- The dismal state of the franchise has many authors. Keep in mind that Ryan Pace missed on Mahomes, missed on Nagy, and busted two 1st round QBs, each of which he paid extra for on trade-ups. We are still in QB hell as a result of his picks in 2017 & 2021, among other busts like Anthony Miller, Shaheen, etc.
- Its fair to say Poles plans and goals aren't looking so good now. He lost the Claypool trade badly, the FAs he brought in this offseason haven't shined (has Edmunds, Edwards, Davis, Walker, Greene, and Yannick done ANYTHING?), and it's already starting to look like he should have drafted Stroud and kept Fields for trade bait. Year 2 of the rebuild is looking just as bad as year 1 of the teardown did and that's no bueno.
- However, Poles probably survives as Warren loves him, he didn't pick Fields, and he's got good capital for next offseason. I don't particularly care either way TBH though. If Warren wants to start totally fresh from the GM on down, that's fine by me.
- OTOH, I don't see any chance of this coaching staff being back. Their MAIN job was to develop the QB and improve the pass game. It remains awful and Fields looks actually worse. A lot of that is on Fields of course (his negatives on his college scouting reports proved accurate and the reports from OTAs and TC that he wasn't sharp were also prescient). But let's be honest, new QBs mean new coaches, that's just the way it is. No one wants either of these clowns anywhere near a new 1st round QB after this season's shit show. I think they're both dead men walking
- Oh and one more thing, Flus was supposed to be a D expert and his defense SUCKS even worse than it did last year despite having a bunch of major additions. If at least the defense was playing hard and looking improved, he would have something to hang his hat on. But we are #31 in the league.
I'm opposite. I say 70% Eberflus and crew, 30% Poles. Flus has input on what he needs/wants. Poles got him that, Flus and crew can't develop it, plan for it, or use it.
