Stadium Update: Where things stand with Arlington Heights.

I think you are buying into what forced Arlington Heights into a fair tax deal.  The Bears were entirely committed to AH pre-Warren, and because of this, and the good natured but gullible nature of the family, they gave up ALL leverage, which is what allowed the Arlington Heights teachers unions to push for a stupidly large cut and act like the City of Chicago was treating the Bears.  Warren is someone who knows how to negotiate and use leverage, because he did the same thing with the Vikings' stadium.  He's not here to be liked - his job is to get the stadium deal done in favorable terms for the McCaskeys, and if he had to be the "bad guy" for looking like the reason the Bears would stay in Chicago in order to get leverage against AH, so be it, and that is EXACTLY what he did.  You believe it, because if you didn't, Arlington Heights certainly wasn't going to believe it.  

And it worked.  Now I think they are just waiting for the AH proposal to become set in stone before announcing they will build in AH, however that works on the city's end.  Don't suppose you saw the recent articles saying the Bears will make their decision within the next year?  That's because it will take a year for that proposal to become codified into a place where various interests cannot change it, likely through a few more city council meetings.  And don't think the mayor of AH isn't in on this whole thing; he knows what a coup it would be for the city to land the Bears and how even with a larger tax break than most residents find reasonable, that it will be offset by the MASSIVE increased revenue and jobs it brings the city.

This whole song and dance was all about getting corrupt teamsters in the various unions to back down in AH.  It worked.  Now they just need for it to be made "official" as a proposal in the various city council meetings for the Bears to commit, and that will take a while because basically they need to let these teamsters plead their case for a larger cut of the pie one last time in these meetings; the council will give them ample time to cry, cuss, and stomp their feet, and then when they finally either tire themselves out and give up, or if they don't give up have been given a year to make their case, the city council will then "lock in" the proposal by voting on the final one, at which point the Bears will commit, and if the teamsters piss and moan, the city council can say they were more than fair to the teamsters in letting them plead their case.

Bears get the proposal they want, and the city council gets political cover from the teamsters, who if you look, are the ones that REALLY kicked off the stadium drama...

Again, I can't read it but Warren does not strike me as a guy that gives up easily. I figured that, but I never knew that logic was not going to factor in, lol

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes and until we do, I can't second guess, but it sounds messed up

That article also says that the Bears had hired lobbyists to push the lakefront agenda for the lakefront. So they are spending money on lobbyists to pursue the lakefront. seems like they could spend their money in a better way 

Wow.... Just Wow

So not only does Warren seem to prefer a rental stadium as opposed to owning a stadium, but in order to stay on the Lakefront, he is willing now to share the stadium with another team in order to help make the tax conundrum work in Chicago.

Pretty soon he will agree to give up concession, ticket and parking revenue. Just please let us stay in Chicago

Honestly, if they want to stay there that bad, just freaking stay where you are.
