The asking price will be high yes but teams will be watching to see what drama with Brady unfolds. Will he step aside or step down because as ruthless as Belicheat can get it's still pretty tough to see Brady ever being traded. Will Brady force their hand relative to Garoppolo?
If I was NE I wouldn't be looking to trade Garoppolo either since he appears to be their eventual solution to the post Brady era so I think you're correct when you say there's little likelihood they'll trade him now when they still have another year to let the hand play out.
Who can actually say what he's worth? Two firsts is what you pay for a franchise level player and I don't think Garoppolo has enough of a track record for them to get that no matter what's being said. So I reject that as being anywhere near what I would offer for starters and would only go that high if other picks and/or players were also in the deal to balance it out. It could be a 1st and a swap of 1sts or a two 1sts for JG and a second in return. Who knows?
So for anyone to call any compensation crazy without knowing the whole deal is equally crazy. Until some deals are actually on the table it's all speculation but that would not stop me from pursuing talks with NE about him. If you don't ask you don't get.
I don't disagree with anything. But my take on it would be if BillyB is sure he can get a franchise QB with our 1st round pick, why don't we cut out the middleman and do it ourselves? Then hopefully get at least a day two pick for Cutler?
Does Kizer (or Watson or Rudolph or Kelly) have a higher ceiling than Garropolo? If Barkley works out, do we have someone who can start until our freshly drafted franchise QB comes up to speed? I omitted Trubisky from the list as I believe he will be long gone when we pick at 4 or 5 (or higher).

I like the idea of adding Garropolo, it's just about the Price to pay. Adding him for 2x 2nds would be worth it. You just don't hand NE a Top6 pick for their backup with 4 games played...
Ya 2 x's would be worth it, but he's not leaving NE for 2 2nd's. It's not even in the conversation.
Minimum I think its going to be a 1st and a 2nd.
Minimum they get might only be 1st and a 2nd, but the starting price is going to be 2 firsts and more; and that right there should remove the Bears from the conversation. This team is not so welt built and ready to win that they can afford to give up multiple picks for one piece that isn't close to 100% proven, even if it is the most important position in the game.

Agree 100%. Where this team is right now, trading even 1st and a 2nd would be a terrible idea. Even if Pace doesn't draft a QB with the 1st or 2nd, he can't afford to not add players--solid players-- at multiple positions in exchange for adding a QB that is still an unknown.
You guys are right - you don't give away picks for an unproven Garoppolo . That said , this draft better be offense heavy ( as in QB , T , T , TE ) drafted , in that order , b4 ANY defensive players get picked ... or Pace doesn't know wtf he's doing . This O needs help and needs to be addressed in a big way , or this team ain't goin anywhere .
I figure we have seen a very small sample of Barkley's work so far. I'm looking forward to watching his performances the rest of this season.
I am hoping he does well over the remainder of the season. I also hope we get a really solid QB in the 2017 draft. This way we have at worst a solid backup QB who can start as well as (hopefully) a franchise QB in development.
I am with the camp who say that we give him until the end of the year to fully evaluate his progress.
