Poles best/worst decisions in the offseason (Bearstalk)

Actually, the part of Oluwatimi's resumé that I found most interesting isn't that he was an Outland Trophy winner but that he was a Rimington Trophy winner (best center in CFB).  Winning the Rimland award typically indicates a successful NFL career.

I didn't do a lot of research on the draft, so I didn't know anything about him.  All of the stuff below came from recent research.

Most/all of the Rimington Trophy winners are drafted, and many are drafted very highly. And most end up as regular starters in the NFL.  I didn't look at all of the Rimington winners, just over the last decade or so.  About half were taken in the first round.  And all but three of the most recent Rimington winners were taken no lower than the 3rd round.  In 2013 Bryan Stork was taken with the 105th pick (Round 4 Pick 5) by New England.  In 2015, Reese Dismukes was signed by the Steelers as an UDFA. He was the only recent Rimington winner who was undrafted.  And Oluwatimi who was taken at pick 154 (Round 5 Pick 19).

None of this means that Oluwatimi will or will not have a decent NFL career.  Just that some research into these things is better than (as JABF likes to say) is better than watching paint dry (or is it paint peel??).

Not silly at all. I can see the Bears and Seahawks meeting head-to-head in the playoffs by 2025.  I also compare Bears to Lions off-season acquisitions, because we aren’t going to win the North without beating them.  

The day-1 starters in 2023 will replace some of the crappy players Poles brought in last year.  One thing Bears fans should have learned last year is that just being a starter doesn’t mean he can beat the guy across the line from him.

Yes, Poles did a great tank job, which is precisely WHY it doesn’t say much that two or three guys he drafted end up as starters.

So, you think the Lions aren’t going to win the North? Or Seahawks strongly contend in the West?  I think you have them both underrated again this year.

Brax, Brisker, Gordon. That filled 3 positions.  That left about 15 more.  So far in2023, he’s added about 4 more that we can really count on as starters on the 2025 team.  Others are “wait and see” status.  If enough of those guys come through, especially the front-7, we have a chance to beat the Lions.
