**I hate the way bearstalk has their website set up to place ads after every paragraph. I use an adblocker so I apologize for those who don't.

Worst Decision (so far): Failing to add an edge rusher in free agency or NFL Draft

Best Decision: Trading the No. 1 pick to the Panthers for DJ Moore and future draft assets

might generate more discussion. I'm interested in tracking how a few of the names we batted around that didn't end up in Chicago do this year. Impossible to generate a 1:1 relationship between a player who signed elsewhere but I'm always interested.

I would dispute the edge rusher statement. If Poles is going to get a veteran FA edge rusher, he will act sometime after the OTAs. A lot of veteran FAs who will be role players just want to show up for some/all of TC (probably at the team's insistence). And the longer he waits to talk to them, he would typically get the best value.

He may very well have a couple of guys picked out and just hasn't pulled the trigger.

And I suspect that if he wants to supplement the DL talent, he will do something short term as he has two 1st rounders next year.

If Carolina really bombs in 2023, the pick we have from them will be a pretty high pick. Why spend a ton of draft capital and cap space if you can get something adequate now and get someone on a full 4-year rookie deal next year?

It's not like this will make the difference with us going deep into the playoffs in 2023.

Looking at our OL, and inexperience all across the board (except Nate), I really think that having an experienced C this year could be vital.
That doesnt mean I was against drafting a C in 4th/5th and having him sit for a year, im just saying this is ok too.
Next year I say we buy in FA and draft Cs.

We'll have to see how this plays out. If Oluwatimi (pick 154 in the draft) ends up being a solid everyday starter at C and has a couple of all-pro nominations and Noah Sewell (pick 148 in the draft) ends up being at best a special team player and a perennial backup, then you would be right. But that would be predicated on Oluwatimi ending up as a starter very early in his career.

But I don't recall Oluwatimi being really hyped as the total sleeper in the draft either. So, I wouldn't classify it as one of Poles' "worst decisions".

Update: As I think about these two picks, I wouldn't have minded a center instead of Noah Sewell. I always thought of Sewell as a "tweener". A little too slow to be a solid OLB in a 4-3 who could cover the run, blitz and also cover in coverage. And way too small to be an edge rusher in the NFL. Could he end up being our next Nick Kwiatkowski?

That guy has short arms and downright tiny 8.5 inch hands. I don't like Munchkin hands on a center. I read his draft profile and he sounds like he could develop into a starter - but nothing special. I have a feeling that DL guys will feast on him. The Center position of the OL is too important to settle for a guy like this. I do wish him luck. But surely Poles can do better than this guy.
