Its rare for the Bears to be in the top 3. How anyone would want a meaningless win I find crazy. You guys really want to hurt the team? There is nothing positive that comes out if we win against the 49ers. I still wish we lost to either the Vikings or Lions to make us 1-10.
Imagine if this franchise drafted Manning instead of winning those meaningless games in the end?
You know what would piss me off? Getting the #1 or 2 overall pick and whiffing on it - Insult meet injury... Screw that. If Pace is a good GM and if Pace has good scouts he's going to get a good player wherever he picks in the first round. If he sucks, no matter where he picks we're going to
Of course a GM has a chance to get a good player anywhere in the first round. No question. But sometimes that "special" player is gone in the first few picks. It reminds me of Walter Payton we got at #4 overall. I went back tonight and looked at that draft. The next guy taken? Mack Mitchell. He played a few seasons and was gone from the NFL. The next RB after Walter in the 1st round was a guy named Don Hardemon... he scored 2 TD's in his entire career and was gone from the NFL. That same draft at #2 was a guy named Randy White, one of the greatest DT's ever to play the game. White & Payton are in the Hall of Fame.
I'm not saying the Bears will get a great guy at #2. But when you get to pick that high the entire draft board is yours to choose from and you have a shot. Drafting later means you may not even get the opportunity to get a Walter Payton or a Randy White - because they are off the board.
Gone.
Day late and a dollar short type thing.
Do you pass that guy up just so we can puff out our chest at work on Monday and brag about how we beat a 1-win 49er team? Hey. I'd rather have the draft pick opportunity.
