Maybe, just maybe Poles decided not to buy premium positions (QB, OT, DE) but to always draft them. Tbh it does make sense, and longterm could prove as an excellent idea.
Only problem I see is that you dont pay ILBs more in that case!
So Poles didn't want to spend $16m AAV on a 26yo 4-time Pro Bowl OT?
Ooooooookkkkkkkaaayyyyyyyyyy......
I'll be interested to hear the rationale for this one.
I believe 2 issues with Brown. The first is he is slow and does not fit offensize scheme. Zone blocking needs quicker athletes. Do not expect them to draft Dawand Jones for similar reason.
Second reason is he reportedly only interested in left tackle. Why pay big money for when Braxton Jones actually had better ratings per pff than brown.

He wanted to play left tackle. Its amazing how much money this guy is leaving on the table by forcing the issue at left tackle. He could have been paid more than McGlinchley to play right tackle...instead he takes less just so he can play the left side.
See and here I thought it was destiny that Brown sign in Chicago. Doesn't matter what Brown wanted or that Cinny offers a faster route to a SB than the Bears. This is 100% on Poles!! Pitchforks!! Torches!!! Bring back Pace! Bring back Emery! Is Angelo still alive? I demand Poles explain every single action he took in this case. Release all the phone calls and all the texts!
How dare Poles not see that Brown belonged in Chicago at any price. Doesn't matter that Brown wanted to go play with Barrow, Chase and Higgins. Poles screwed this up! Its all on Poles only Poles forever Poles!!!!

I agree, Butkus. And maybe he took less to play on a winning team that has a legit shot at multiple SBs in the near future.
But yeah, McGlinchey is not as good, has zero pro-bowls to Brown's 4, plays purely RT (can't flip-flop if needed like OB can), and is getting about $2m more per year in AAV.
He left a lot of money on the table in my view and Cincinnati got a STEAL.

At this point in his career, it seems he values position, team, and money in that order.

He made a promise to his dad to play LT and not RT. Sounds like Orlando loved and respected his dad - and listened to his advice (dad was an NFL player who died young at age 40). Bears have a LT and are trying to not screw this up with Braxton Jones... a young ascending LT, our future there. Bears are doing the right thing. Orlando Brown values some things more than money.
Brown does NOT want to be a RT.
He's a wealthy multi-millionaire NFL player already - really, how much money DO you need to be happy? Right? He's doing the right thing. This thing with the Bears and Brown was a non-starter. Period.
