Only 1 of those receivers is actually feasible, Allen. Adams isn't going anywhere, neither is Evans unless the Bucs decide to reset. Michael Thomas is washed and I'm pretty sure doesn't actually want to play football. So like I said, you're "not the only guy", you're just the only guy without standards it seems. I'm very cool with him trying to get a vet WR1, but I'm pretty sure Poles isn't looking for my permission or cares what I think.
BS. If it turns out DHop is the only one available, I am happy. He is immediately the best receiver on the team.
Not BS. What are you willing to give up for a 31 year old receiver who wants a new contract, has had some availability issues recently, and might be a malcontent if the Bears aren't a contender? Second round pick? Third round pick? Multiple picks?
What I can tell you is that Hopkins sure as hell isn't going to New England with their hiring of Bill O'Brien as the OC. O'Brien compared Hopkins to Aaron Hernandez...and not in the "his play on the field reminds me of him" way.

Everybody wants a new contract. A second round pick should be enough. I couldn’t care less what O’Brien thinks. Poles can meet with DHop and make his own judgment. I just read a couple more articles on Thomas. Looks like he is definitely going FA. I would want him to pass a medical exam, workout, interview. If that all looks good, he’d be a better risk/reward than some of these other lost dogs Poles brought in last year!

There was virtually no "risk" associated with the FA signees at WR last year. They were all lottery ticket, cheap 1-yr deals brought in for a teardown year only. And you fully know it so that's total BS.
And sorry I'm not trading a 2nd round pick for DHop. He's 31 yo, has missed a lot of time the last 2 seasons, will demand an expensive new contract (he has a no-trade clause so can call the shots), and is a diva knucklehead.
We already traded a 2nd round pick for Claypool mid-year. Do you realize he had more yards his prior two seasons, several hundred more, than Hopkins has had his last two? And he's years younger.
Thank about it--with Hopkins you are paying a big price for PAST production.

I do know all that. Thomas is the last guy on my wish list. He would be much less expensive than anybody else on my list, and can sign him on a 1-yr. “prove it” deal like all of Poles other lost dogs. The difference is that, IF, IF, IF, he is physically and mentally ready to play, he has already proven that he is capable. Does he still have “it”? I don’t know. But if the price is right, I’d like to find out.
Here is my counter-argument for the DHop trade:
1. AGE: Yes, he is 31 but still playing at a high level (more on that later).
2. TIME MISSED: Yes, but the more important question is whether is he currently physically fit. This trade is predicated on him passing a medical exam. Injuries happen to WRs. Claypool, Mooney, Pringle, Jones, etc. were ALL injured in 2022. They are all under age 30. As I said, NOT getting injured is more about luck than age.
3. CONTRACT: He is under contract to play for $19.5M in 2023. We can put some sweet incentives there based on playing time and performance.
4. NO TRADE CLASE: I read that the no trade clause was voided by his suspension. Do you know something else about that?
5. DIVA KNUCKHEAD: They can still be very productive (Antonio Brown, Terrell Owens, etc.). I am relying on management and Fields to keep him with the program, but I understand the concern.
6. CLAYPOOL YARDS: Only because DHop was injured. Claypool’s playing ability, especially ball skills and route running is nowhere close to DHop’s. If Claypool doesn’t produce this year, he’s gone.
7. PAYING FOR PAST PRODUCTION: Absolutely not true. Unlike some folks around here, I don’t base my evaluation of players just on statistical averages about other players. I base it on what I saw on the field LAST season. Yes, I actually watched some Cardinals games last year. He play 9 games and averaged 80 yards per game on a team that was in turmoil. He can still play at a high level. Human beings and football players age at different rates. There are no guarantees, but if DHop can give us just two good years, it would be great for Fields development to have a WR1 that he can use to practice precision routes, anticipation throws, etc. — one of the weaknesses in his passing skills. See this article... allchgo.com/2023/02/16/the-bears-must-trade-for-deandre-hopkins-to-unlock-justin-fields-as-a-passer/ JABF and I want a Super Bowl ready team in 2024, and this would help get there. Otherwise, we are just hoping and praying to get WR out of the draft. If all goes well in 2023, a second round pick in 2024 will be in the middle to lower part of the round. That would be worth the price, if we can get it. Poles can work out the trade terms. We might give them something, too, in the trade.

I'd rather have Keenan Allen then, as most likely all he is going to cost is money. They are virtually the same receiver currently.

Bottom line I don't want no 31 year old receiver. By the time Fields develops chemistry with 31 year old, his value will be gone. Much rather gather draft picks and pick JSN and Boutte this year, Harrison next year. All young and growing together. Lots of Dline talent in draft, fix oline in FA.

Well, good news! Allen's been restructured and staying in LA.

+1 That is the ideal, drafting your own young affordable ascending talent. Of course actually getting it done is the challenge here. I'd be a mighty happy camper though, with JSN and Boutte.

Hopkins can be our WR1 2023-24 and the rookie becomes Fields WR1 by 2025. Both are possible, and this is the best plan for Fields development.
Now, that changes if Poles can get a Trey Lance deal and draft JSN with his first pick. Otherwise, we are counting on Poles to draft Flowers, Boutte, Downs (quality slot receiver) with that first pick in second round to come in 2023 and do something reasonably close to what I know we get with Hopkins or JSN.
