There's takeaways for all of us here. Such as, don't expect Poles will be able to fulfill everyone's wish list. There's more holes on this roster than there is roster. Let's all be realistic--we can get a lot better in 2023 but it's gonna take 2 offseasons to truly "rebuild".
David, you'll love the 1st round pick and I hope this assessment of him proves accurate. I love the idea of getting Schmidt in round 2. Things I'm reading about this guy make me think he's gonna be a stud center for years to come.

I still like the Colts trade for round 1. But I want best WR on the board in round 2 instead of more linemen. Get linemen in free agency. There are no WR1 candidates in FA this year.
That will be excused if he trades for DHop, Evans, Higgins, Adams, Thomas to give Fields a WR1. But if he can’t do that, then WR is non-negotiable in round 2. If he goes into 2023 with Mooney, Claypool, EQ as his starters, I will be pissed off. That probably indicates that he didn’t seriously try to get WR1 candidate.
There are several good centers. I would draft one in round 3, if not via FA.

I highly doubt that would happen. I'm willing to wager a lot of money it won't. You may not get the guy(s) you want, but I think very likely Poles will sign a FA WR (Chark?, JuJu?, Meyers?) and draft another one. He almost HAS to as the 3 players you mentioned aren't signed past 2023 right now.
Like I said we should end up with a minimum of two 2nd round picks + the first pick of the 3rd (essentially another late 2nd) and I'm quite confident one of those picks will go to a WR.
Having said that, I'm not passing up a better player, especially a "higher floor" player, just to draft a WR at any particular place. That kind of thinking--letting "need" be the tail that wags the dog--is how you end up with a Velus Jones type of pick.
Schmidt crushed it at the Senior Bowl all week and looks more and more like a day 1 starter at C and an OL fixture for years to come. We also just happen to desperately need upgrades on the OL and particularly at C. He's not getting out of the 2nd round which says a lot about how good a prospect he is--Centers rarely get drafted that high. He's our Creed Humphrey and I'm really liking him for a round 2 selection.
