What is most important now, is to acquire the right player talent. I love watching JT O'Sullivan break down video in "The QB School" he does each week. It sounds like there really isn't anything new in any of these team's schemes. The terminology is different between teams, and the individual plays called in a game are different. But teams pretty much build a playbook from plays that have been around forever. John Madden talked about this almost 40 years ago while covering the '85 Bears. He said it isn't the scheme that makes the team so good - it is the player talent executing the scheme. It's all about the player talent. You either have it, or you don't. Coaching matters, but coaches can't overcome a lack of raw talent (and the player football IQ necessary to develop that talent).
It's on Poles now to supply that talent.
2023 is a big test to see if Poles has the gears to get this team where it needs to be talent-wise. These stone-hand WRs and OL getting bull rushed like rag dolls - that's not gonna get it done here. Fields can only do so much if the surrounding talent isn't great. Great. Not mediocre guys we "hope" will develop someday. We need legit top-tier talent. I am so tired of watching the Bears slop together a roster on offense with mediocre talent (and worse). I'm so hoping Poles is better than the failed GMs here of the past.
+1
It is especially important due to the fact teams will find a way to shut down what Fields is doing now. Next year this stuff won't fly if the O talent isn't there to support an offense that can pass as well as run. In fact, as THIS season goes on, we may see teams handle Fields better. Even Mitch Trubisky has a good initial year in 2018 in the Nagy offense. But the talent really wasn't there, and teams shut that O down after that. You gotta have talent to sustain a healthy offense over the long haul.
