I still think Getsy has to be held to account for his play calling in the first 1/2 of the games so far. He didn't put Fields in a position to use Fields' strengths, he ran the GB OFF with Fields. He gets credit for making a switch recently, but he did the OFF no favors before the Pats game.
We are 3-6 and just beginning to show life on offense after being bottom-of-the-barrel most of the season and you guys are worried about the OC getting hired away somewhere?
Pace yourselves, guys. We have a long way to go to become the type of "good team" that sees their coordinators become hot HC candidates.
Right. The perception from other teams would have to be that Getsy did for Fields what Daboll did for Josh Allen and is now doing for Giants.

But it is reasonable to expect a 1st time rookie OC to need time to settle into the new role. Getsy had never called plays before. And personally, I like that he showed that he is willing to make adjustments to his offense (the exact opposite from what Matt Nagy did here... dude was so stubborn). If the offense continues to look good to the end of this season I think Getsy has a 50/50 chance of being hired by one of the 6 or more teams hunting for an HC in '23. He will have proven himself with a QB who was widely called a bust (and now is viewed as the #1 QB out of that 2021 draft class & a future NFL star by many) - and he did this with an O roster that arguably had the worst talent in the NFL (and a number of young/new players, and some rejects from other teams). If (a big if) Getsy finishes the season well, then nobody will care what happened in the first games of the season here. And they shouldn't.

I would add that as the season has progressed, Getsey has learned what the players are capable of and good and bad at, and adjusted the plays and his playcalling accordingly. That is not something he could have done just based on the limited preseason work. I don't think the first few games in a season of any team are a good measure of any one player or coach, or even the entire team. Especially with all new coaches and so many new players.

Wasn’t it the critique of Nagy’s offense around here, including you, that he was trying to force Fields into being a drop back pocket passer instead of adapting the offense to Fields’ strengths? Ergo, if we ignorant fans could see the issue as far back as last season, I’m not awarding a gold star to Getsy for taking nearly half a season to make the change. He gets only a silver star for being smarter about it than Nagy.

If we expect "instant perfect" from players and coaches, well, that just doesn't happen. That's not reality for anyone in life. When you hire a 1st time coach at any level, there is a learning curve associated with that. If Getsy can climb that learning curve as fast as he has... well hey, I'm ecstatic. This is the season to do that due to the fact the rebuild really begins next year. So let these young coaches (and guys like Fields) grow into their roles and make mistakes THIS year so they make fewer NEXT season.

I don’t expect “instant perfect” (not clear what you’re quoting), but he could have looked at the Nagy debacle to figure out that the offensive scheme Getsy brought in is not going to work any better, and what is needed is the one we have now that is scoring 30 points instead of 9. That would have helped Fields development as well as the rest of the team.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how good the Getsy hire turned out to be and also believe that he’s one of the main reason why Rodgers and the Packers are struggling this year. But let’s slow down a bit, he’s nowhere near being ready to be considered a HC candidate, nor has he proven anything yet.
I do believe that he’s the real deal at OC, Alan Williams at DC not so much…

Grizz, he may not get hired as a HC. I think he has "some" chance. As far as being a HC candidate though, he already has been... Denver interviewed him as one of their HC candidates in January (LINK). But you are 100% right. He has not proven anything yet. I totally agree with you there.
