Yes, it is. I am saying that, if Carter is the next J.J. Watt, the Lions would be foolish not to resign him after 4 years, unless he is making unacceptable demands in contract negotiations (e.g., Suh case). If so, you just give him a“non-exclusive “ franchise tag.
No it isn't. bc for every JJ Watt, you have guys like Suh and Clowney that aren't and don't.
You are fretting over another team maybe getting a great player that maybe kept. It's like a girl fretting over girl she doesn't like possibly getting a better man then she gets.
It's pointless.
I hope my fretting ends on April 27 when the Seahawks draft Carter, or at least the Lions do not.
So a lot of talk about if the Bears should take a WR w/their pick, lets see how that could work out.
9) WR Quentin Johnston. While everyone talks JSN, after looking at 5-6 big boards, most had Johnston was the guy. Neither seem like top 10 picks form the looks at it, but Johnston seems to have an edge b/c of his athleticism.
53) Gervon Dexter DT. Plug and play penetrating DT.
61 Jaelyn Duncan RT. team needs a guy to play RT, they get a guy to do it.
64) Jaylon Jones CB At this point the OC's and Edges are basically gone until the next grouping later in the draft. Time to address other issues.
103) Zack Kuntz TE, anyone a letterkenny fan? This dude is going to keep you satisfied for a few years, even if it does prove your a piece of shit.
133) Isaiah McGuire Edge. Can be a rotational piece until he takes over as a starter
136) Ricky Stromberg C Longterm answer to C, even if Whitehair has to take the roll for a yr
148) KJ Henry Edge, not getting the elite in the first two rounds time to double dip to make sure they get shots at a legit dude.
218) Nesta Jade Silvera DT Bears need ton of help on the DL and there is plenty of room in that room.
258) Lew Nichols III RB. 5'10" 200lb rb, if he works out boy what a nice piece.
Unless they trade back a bit further it really doesn't make sense to take a WR at 9, none of the WR's high in the draft are really looked at as super studs, really not sure why they would do this when they have bigger needs at more important positions that haven't been addressed yet. BUT if they do, falling back to the middle teens to get at least another 2nd will create issues further down the draft.

He’s drafting Paris Johnson at #9.
But if he were to draft Q. Johnston over JSN, I would throw something. We need a slot receiver who is a better route runner than Mooney, not another tall, fast Claypool clone.

He's drafting a linemen at 9 I agree, I was just going off what I've seen online, here and even saw something on TV.
Claypool is replaceable, he showed that last year, this puts him as a depth piece. You don't draft slot WR's in the 1st, they are abundant throughout the draft. SO if it is a slot guy they need, it definitely will not be in rd 1.

JSN will go first round.
Maybe, but not in the top 10, probably not in the top 15. Slot guys are like G's and C's, not building blocks.
Interesting thought process, here are the first 8 teams in the draft and their needs/and what they did so far in FA as of the 3/16: 1. Carolina Panthers (via trade with 3-14 Bears) Team needs: QB, CB, EDGE, WR, C Free agents signed: RB Miles Sanders, S Vonn Bell, TE Hayden Hurst, DL Shy Tuttle, QB Andy Dalton Free agents lost: QB Sam Darnold, QB P.J. Walker
Really didn't address any of their needs in FA, didn't trade up to draft anything other then a QB, qb1 gone
2. Houston Texans (3-13-1) Team needs: QB, OG, C, TE, LB, DL, EDGE Free agents signed: WR Robert Woods, S Jimmie Ward, DL Sheldon Rankins, QB Case Keenum Free agents lost: EDGE Obo Okoronkwo, CB Tremon Smith, WR Phillip Dorsett, QB Kyle Allen
Also didn't address anything in FA, QB2 gone
3. Arizona Cardinals (4-13) Team needs: OG, C, EDGE, CB, LB, RB, OT Free agents signed: EDGE Kyzir White, OG Will Hernandez, OT Kelvin Beachum, K Matt Prater Free agents lost: EDGE Zach Allen, CB Byron Murphy
Cards addressed Edge, OT and OG So they could go any # of routes, possibly trading out of 3; or drafting another Edge or taking CB1; but that doesn't happen top 5, Edge 1 gone
4. Indianapolis Colts (4-12-1) Team needs: QB, OT, CB, WR, EDGE, TE Free agents signed: EDGE Samson Ebukam, DL Taven Bryan, LB E.J. Speed, WR Ashton Dulin Free agents lost: LB Bobby Okereke, CB Brandon Facyson
Addressed Edge. Could go qb3 or OT1 or trade out. They have Gardner and Foles, is that fooling anyone? it's qb3 unless the wrong qb's are left, then OT1, but QB3 gone
6. Detroit Lions (via trade with 5-12 Rams) Team needs: TE, CB, DL, OG, QB Free agents signed: CB Cam Sutton, RB David Montgomery, CB Emmanuel Moseley, LB Alex Anzalone Free agents lost: RB Jamaal Williams, S Deshon Elliott Notable free agents: WR DJ Chark, RB Jamaal Williams, LB Alex Anzalone, OG Evan Brown, CB Mike Hughes
Addressed CB x2. They aren't taking the 4th qb in the top 10 of a weak qb class; unless one of the top 2 fell like when Fields was drafted DL1 gone(carter or otherwise)
7. Las Vegas Raiders (6-11) Team needs: OT, OG, C, S, DL, LB Free agents signed: QB Jimmy Garoppolo, WR Jakobi Meyers, LB Robert Spillane, DL Jerry Tillery Free agents lost: QB Derek Carr, QB Jarrett Stidham, EDGE Clelin Ferrell Notable free agents: CB Rock Ya-Sin, LB Denzel Perryman, WR Mack Hollins, EDGE Clelin Ferrell
Addressed LB and DL Will take OT 1 if available, OT1 gone.
8. Atlanta Falcons (7-10) Team needs: QB, CB, LB, S, DL, EDGE Free agents signed: S Jessie Bates III, OT Kaleb McGary, QB Taylor Heinicke, EDGE Kaden Elliss Free agents lost: CB Isaiah Oliver Notable free agents: OT Kaleb McGary, WR Olamide Zaccheaus, QB Marcus Mariota, LB Rashaan Evans
Addressed Edge. CB 1 taken.
9. Chicago Bears (via trade with 7-10 Panthers) Team needs: OT, CB, DL, EDGE, TE Free agents signed: LB Tremaine Edmunds, OG Nate Davis, LB T.J. Edwards, EDGE DeMarcus Walker Free agents lost: RB David Montgomery, OT Riley Reiff
Addressed Edge and TE. Bears now have to choose. forget the names, which are you taking DL 2, Edge 2, OT 2 WR 2 or CB2, TE1(there are a few big boards that have 1 TE on their big boards in the top 10).

Looking at it that way, I'd bet on OT. They won't draft WR here after adding DJ Moore in trade (he was our 1st round WR this year). There is quality depth at DL and Edge in round 2. CB & TE are not critical needs. They probably will get an OT who can be rock-solid for the OL for the next 9 or 10 years. If Poles is really looking for best value for his pick, then it's probably at OT here.
The best comment I heard about drafting a LT here, was one were the guy said you get the BEST 5 guys for OL and don't worry who will play LT or RT. Get the best 5 OL and sort it out later. If that means you have 2 tackles gifted enough that either could be a stud LT... that's not a "bad thing" to have. Put one at RT and you have great bookend T's. In other words don't feel you have to draft a lessor talented RT. Draft the best OL you can get. In today's NFL the RT has to be able to go up against great D rushers too, the way the great D guys can line up in multiple places in a game. We would have stellar T play - and filling in between the tackles is so much more doable than finding elite T talent. Guards and centers are pretty easy to find. But having those two bookend T's would be fantastic for the Bears. Braxton Jones & the new guy. Young guns.
