Gotta admit though that he was a holy terror (just one crazy-mean man for sure... break a QB like a child breaks a toy). The foot-stomp thing was so "Suh" - yeah, loved to hate that dude but he was sure one to fear. He physically beat up Cutler bad. Real bad, so many times.
All of that true, and he was on another team in 4 years and has been for 4 or 5 teams in his career.
Talent that gets passed around that much is like the perfect ten that is always single, there is a reason someone walked away.
If you listen to Carter’s coach and teammates, they love him. Suh is a different type cat. He was a damn good player for years with the Lions, but he was also a dirty player. That wears thin after a time, especially in the back end of his career when his production declines.
You can say this with ANY player we may pass over. Can't sweat stuff that has already happened. If you truly feel this way then why not trade ALL our picks for vets?
I read this three times. I can’t make sense of it. Don’t you think it’s fair to say Pace “missed” by drafting Trubisky instead of Mahomes?
No. Let's say roles were reversed. Trubisky gets Reids coaching and mentoring and Mahomes gets Nagy. Do you feel Mahomes is still Mahomes under Nagy? I don't, even though I wanted to draft him.

Not all his coaches loved him, again it came out that coaches had to keep on his ass all the time. Ya but after 4 years he's not on the back end and in decline.
Just b/c you have a hit doesn't mean they stay or you want to keep him; it's not all about the ability and I gave you 2 examples of just that.

There are two things going on here. First, Mahomes had Reid, Hill, and Kelce, etc. The perfect setup for success. And Trubsiky had Nagy offense, etc. the perfect setup for failure. I am very aware of all that. HOWEVER, great quarterbacks have their own intrinsic abilities (read defense, improvise, throw accurately, pocket presence, speed/agility, etc.) that make them Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Mahomes has it, and Trubisky does not.

Lions tried to keep Suh but the Dolphins offered him $114 million with $60 million guaranteed. The other moves were one year with Raiders and then to Eagles where he is now definitely in back end of career. Carter might be a more high maintenance player than others, but that's what the coaches get paid to do. Good coaches are good teachers and good motivators. Steelers put up with Antonio Brown's BS for 9 years because, in the end, he produced on the field.

But good players, that aren't qb's don't normally stay w/their teams, as seen by Clowney and Suh. Both are great at their positions, both were issues off the field, both got moved b/c of it.
You cannot assume that every hit stays b/c it doesn't work like that. If Carter is an all pro in Det, chances are he'll seek to get the hell out after 4 years for better options. Same w/Chicago really, it's a long time since 05, and 85 is ancient history to kids that are getting drafted now.

I agree. Only exceptional players are going to get expensive multi-year contracts after 4 years. Having said that, it would be a big mistake to not resign a superstar 3-tech guy like J.J. Watt after only 4 years, unless (like Suh) he simply priced himself too high in contract negotiations. Too soon to say how any of this applies to Carter.

That's the point. No reason to fret over another teams picks long term.

Yes, it is. I am saying that, if Carter is the next J.J. Watt, the Lions would be foolish not to resign him after 4 years, unless he is making unacceptable demands in contract negotiations (e.g., Suh case). If so, you just give him a“non-exclusive “ franchise tag.

No it isn't. bc for every JJ Watt, you have guys like Suh and Clowney that aren't and don't.
You are fretting over another team maybe getting a great player that maybe kept. It's like a girl fretting over girl she doesn't like possibly getting a better man then she gets.
