I am so thankful Poles passed on Carter. He must have a screw loose in his head. What a bad look for the Eagles here. For that matter I can't imagine the NFL wanting this look... glorifying the Bloods Gang who have murdered countless thousands over the years and are into major drug trafficking. davidl I'll bet you're thankful Seattle passed on him too. How would you like Jalen Carter as the face of your franchise?
Did you read through some of the comments posted under the video? To say the least, there are different perspectives on this 13-second video. Let the players explain it themselves before condemning them. That’s only fair.
Eagles and Carter need to be more worried about the $40 million dollar lawsuit Carter was just named a defendant in for the death of Devin Willock. This is a nothingburger compared to that.

Civil litigants always ask for huge amounts of money, almost always much more than they end up getting.
Besides, I’m not even sure he will lose the case. Willock decided to get in the car driven by a woman with blood alcohol .197 and she drove 104 mph, slamming into the curb to cause the crash. I’m sure Carter’s lawyer will mention that to the jury .
I see that the university, the estate of the woman driver, and others are named as defendants.

Those are gang signs they are flashing there. That doesn't necessarily mean they are members. Not cool, either way.

I saw that too. And while flashing gang signs on social media doesn't mean the guy's a member, or another budding Aaron Hernandez - it's not a good look for the guy or the franchise, to say the least. My only point is that I'm thankful Poles did not draft the guy.

I get it. It's the victim's fault he died. Gotcha.
All that guy needed was to play it cool for 5-10y and he would be set for life, as well as his grankids.. but nooo, has to be immature right now. Sad tbh.

Bullet DODGED!
Thank you, Ryan Poles, for having the courage to go HARD PASS on this guy.

Not exactly. Put it this way, if you decide to get in a car with a driver who is .197 blood alcohol (DOUBLE+ the legal standard for DUI), you have SOME responsibility for what happens next. The reason why there are multiple defendants in this case is that multiple parties shared responsibility. The university hosted the party where these people got drunk and drove vehicles. The university adults on the scene dropped the ball. The woman driver was a proximate responsible cause of his death. Carter agreed to the drag race. ALL these people could have made different decisions that would have avoided the tragedy.
I read that article already about how poorly Carter did on the interviews with the Bears and Seahawks. My new theory is that he knew right after the Eagles interview that he wanted to play on the Super Bowl team with his buddies, and so he deliberately bombed his other interviews and his agent basically told us that he wasn’t dropping below the Eagles and declined other invitations.
Carter might be a bust or an All Pro. We don’t know either with any certainty. However, until we see his performance on the field, I still believe this is quite possibly a Tunsil case and the “red flags” are overblown. For the record, I would have drafted him and am prepared to eat crow, if necessary.

It is being reported that he has let himself go and is overweight and out of shape conditioning-wise. Certainly, he can still turn this around and have an NFL career. But think about this. He already has all of this other baggage (legal, emotional and maturity issues). And now he's let himself go physically too. I'm sure you recall he got so winded at his pro day that he had to stop... couldn't even complete a workout at practice that day.
Could he still turn this all around? Sure. But holy cow I'm glad the Bears did not roll the dice with their 1st round pick and bring this guy to Chicago. This guy is the poster boy for high risk. And I'm not buying into him being high reward at all. Like some other physically gifted NFL players from the past, I think this guy will never even sniff his ceiling potential. I could also see the possibility of him ending up the way of Henry Ruggs.

I agree we don't know how this will all end with him. But Poles was so wise to not pick this guy. I would have been ashamed to have him here as a Chicago Bear. Poles is trying to build a team that has high character AS WELL AS high talent. Both. And Eberflus wants guys who will do the work to become great... while Carter is overweight and out of shape - and fighting a lot of distractions now that he brought on himself. He is an embarrassment... reminds me of the Henry Ruggs thing too. Immature.
This morning I was also thinking about Walter Payton... a guy can be a great player, and also a great person. The NFL "Man of the Year Award" is named after him now. Great talent. Great person too. And, I think we may have some of these with our youngsters now (before their career is over). We seem to have a coaching staff and locker room environment that will nurture that type of athlete here. We don't need a guy like Carter here. We can do better than that. Frankly, he sounds like a mess right now.

All the mental/physical issues can be transitory. As I have said before, if I got into a drag race with an obviously drunk woman and two people died, I would still be suffering from guilt and remorse 60 days later… in no mental/physical condition to play football. This will be remembered forever, but that doesn’t mean he can’t pull out of it.
I also said that I did a stupid race with my dad’s ‘57 Chevy and got it to 100 mph when I was about his age, but I don’t think that proves I have bad “character “. Maybe that’s why I can relate to Carter’s situation differently than others here.
