I think it's easy to blame injuries for our defensive struggles. Injuries are part of the game, you need to be prepared. But even when most guys were healthy, the D was very average to put it nicely.
Houston, Philly, GB, Minny, Tampa, NYG - most of the guys were active in those games. The numbers? Not exactly good.
FWIW
19th PPG 28th take aways 18th third downs 10th sacks (not so bad, I'll give you that) 26th INT 25th fumble rec
I'm not saying he sucks, I just think he's overrated. And to even suggest he's one of the best DC in the league is just crazy imo.
OK LB I just went through this with Ric so now it's your turn. Forget the rest Points are what count OK?
We've given up 230 pts on defense in 10 games an average of 23 points per game. So yesterday was an average game defensively. Now to put it in perspective all four NFCS team and the Packers have given up more and the Lions roughly the same. All six of those teams have records ranging from 4-6 to 6-4.
Why? Because they're all scoring more than 16 lousy point per game. A lot more. If our offensive output only equaled our defensive prevention we'd be about 5-5 right now despite all the injuries to the defense. So it ain't the defense whose not doing their jobs brother. In reality they're the only ones who are.
It's also likely that if we did average 23-24 points per game the other guys would have scored even less because they would have had the ball less. All of the sorry truth lays at the feet of an offense John Fox assured us all this spring would be even better than the 2015 version. He's a guy who needs to be gone far more than Fangio who actually is doin his job pretty well all things considered.

Just to clarify, I think both sides suck at the moment. Never said it's only the D holding us back, we all know our offense is pathetic. My point is that even after getting new players on D, we're still #20 in PPG even though we have way more talent than last year. Btw, our defense was also #20 in PPG in 2015. And keep in mind Fangio is supposed to be the DC that is good at "developing talent". So I'm asking you, what exactly has Fangio done over the last two years?
And btw if I had to choose one player who's actually doing his job it would be someone from the offense, not defense. Howard is the ONLY one who's working his ass off every week.

+1
Add in the woefully inadequate special teams to the mix too. How many times have we run out of the end zone to the 15 instead of just kneeling down, or taken a penalty on ST? Our STs set our O up with bad field position, then they struggle to get a first down, and the D is left holding the bag all game. I think Fang and his D would be much better with a better O and a better ST. I would keep Fang and Magazu, most of the D coaching staff, but everybody on O and ST has to go right behind Johnny the Mangy Fox.
