My work schedule is starting to slow down a bit so I'm finally getting some time for college FB. And since our beloved Bears suck terribly, I'd rather watch the college game anyway.
I watched the Arkansas - Mississippi St game last night and there were two guys on the Arkansas roster I liked.
RB Rawleigh Williams III - 5'9" and 223. Nice power. Had 16 rush attempts for 205 yds and 4 TDs. Understand that the Miss St defense is not an SEC leader. But once he got in the open field, he was not pulled down from behind.
WR Keon Hatcher - 6'1" and 205. Decent speed (looks like a 4.5 40 possibly a little faster). 4 receptions for 65 yds and 2 TDs. What I like about this kid is he is really focused, has nice hands and looks more like a RB than a WR. Has the physical strength to play through press coverage. On one of his TDs he had a couple of guys hanging on him and still extended his body to hit the pylon for the TD. IMO could be a nice slot NFL receiver.
In addition to QB , the Bears better start scouting FG kickers and get a good one , cuz Barth SUCKS ! If there's somebody out there with a strong , accurate leg , they better pounce ... and I don't care if they use a draft pick to do it . As a matter of fact they should ( instead of hoping to find one in the UDFA pool ) .
Never ceases to amaze me how much the importance of kickers gets 'blown off' . I mean how important can they be ? other than the fact that kickers tend to LEAD every team in points every year .

Not defending Barth as it is obvious to me that he is not any sort of solution for us as a kicker. But just to point out to the folks that were upset that we let Gould go, he looked pretty bad yesterday as well. Both kickers attempted 4 kicks and both missed two.

Yep Gouldy was crap also . At any rate , I'm hoping the Bears see what kind of a turd Barth is and that they do draft the best one they can find .
Well i certainly can't say i like the talk in this thread lol prospect talk for next year and we have Rb, Wr, and K in discussion?
Rb is set imo Wr is waiting game so that might be some kind of need, but if Aj comes back there is no need imo and K...sure draft one in the 7th, but please don't waste any other pick on a K...just my opinion!
Personally i would like to see them focus the first four picks on Qb, OL, CB and Te in whatever order gets them the best of the bunch. Probably won't land like that come the draft, but it is just my make a wish, wish..

Please don't draft a kicker. Please. If there is one position where you can find a perfectly good players as an UDFA its kicker (and punter but bah...). Please don't draft a kicker.

Gould was an UDFA. Find the next Gould.
So some people are ok with losing winnable games when UDFA kickers miss makeable trys cuz they're worried about " losing " some of those all important studs we wind up with with our 6th + 7t round picks ... ok got it .

Some people would rather take a kicker in the draft rather than take a chance and find a player in the later rounds who can turn into a Richard Sherman..ok got it.
Since we are going to be snarky with each other repeat after me: Gould was a UDFA, he was fine. Adam Viniteri was an UDFA, he was fine. Got it?
I'll say it slower: D O N ' T D R A F T A K I C K E R
The return on a drafted kicker vs kickers that weren't draft isn't enough to warrant wasting a draft pick on a kicker. Because contrary to what you obviously believe, all UDFA kickers don't miss kicks. And some drafted kickers actually don't make the roster. But hey...good thing you drafted that kicker huh? Got it?

Jay Feely (successful NFL kicker)
Feely continued: "I think very highly of the position and the importance of the position, but the difference (between) an average kicker and the best kicker in the NFL is probably about 15 points in a season. You can go and you can find kickers that are very good, very talented, as free agents."
another article:
With an increased focus on accuracy from a kicker, are we to believe that the 2nd or 3rd best kicker in this year’s class is so steep a drop from the best kicker to warrant a 5 round gap (from 2 to 7)?
As an example, Ross Martin from Duke went 4-4 on kicks of 50+ yards this year, and the last 2 years, hit 81% (13/16), on kicks 40+ yards. Roberto Aguayo hit 1-3 kicks of 50+ yards this year, and the last 2 years, hit 64% (14/22) on kick 40+ yards. Both hit 100% of their extra point attempts. Yet Martin went undrafted and the Buccaneers took Aguayo in the 2nd round after trading up. [Ross Martin signed with the Jets as an Undrafted Free Agent, costing the Jets nothing]
I'm not discussing this any more. If you want to discuss the possibility of adding kicker, go for it. It would be a wasted pick. Completely wasted.
