Wow if that isn't the needle pointing in the wrong direction! But as I'd guess the majority on this board have seen nearly every game over the 4 seasons we all realize why. Still the questions remain: Can he put up the #'s of 4 years ago being the #1 guy? Can he stay healthy to put up those #'s? It's quite a conundrum because the Bears don't want to be hamstrung like they were with Cutler's contract once they finally have talent (hoping) that will also be looking for big money extensions.
To the non-Bears fan who just looks at those numbers only it looks bad for Jeffery. For the person that actually watches the games and looks deeper at his stats they see a guy that is just as good as he's always been. The talent has not dropped. This is why other teams will be willing to pay him a lot of money, because their scouts know how good he is.
I completely agree. IMHO Jeffery has some of the strongest hands in the NFL and has made some of the most remarkable catches of any player ever in a Bears uni. Despite his skills and productivity when healthy with a QB that can get him the ball while on a semi-functional offense the questions still remain. Some team will no doubt give him an enormous contract but will his health allow him to be on the field enough to justify the contract? Only time will tell.
Yep he will. If you can make plays, you need to be a pedophile with photos before teams will walk from you. This is nothing. Maybe it should be and maybe it shouldn't but it won't make a difference.
Alshon Jeffery 5 seasons with only 2 being 1,000+ yards:
Year 1: 367 yards ( Plagued with injuries ) Year 2: 1,421 yards ( First year of Trestman's pass happy offense ) Year 3: 1,133 yards ( Second yar of Trestman's pass happy offense ) Year 4: 807 yards ( Plagued with injuries ) Year 5: 630 yards ( Gets suspended do to PED's. Most likely things to help out his soft tissue injury )
If Alshon won't play another snap this year his total will be: 4358 yards in 5 years
For a guy who wants top 5 money his resume looks bad.
He has two 1,000+ yards when and only when Marshall was here. Having Hoyer or Cutler on the field this year doesn't change the on field production. The only difference is Hoyer spreads out the ball while Cutler locks onto Jeffery while hitting him in the head. Bold part is just a joke, not to be taken serious but Cutler does have a problem with overthrowing it.
Who am I right?
I mean I wasn't the guy who said Jeffery wasn't going to have a lackluster season. I wasn't the guy who said having Cutler in there instead of Hoyer wouldn't change the outcome... ( *Sarcasm* )
Jeffery only has one 100+ yard game. That was against the Texans. We're done with 10 games and Jeffery has 3 games to play at the end of the season. I don't even think he'll get pass his 2015 record. Now let's compare Jeffery to Dez and DT.
Dez Bryant:
Year 1: 561 yards Year 2: 928 yards Year 3: 1,382 yards Year 4: 1,233 yards Year 5: 1,320 yards
Total: 5,424 yards in his first 5 years.
Demaryius Thomas:
Year 1: 283 yards Year 2: 551 yards Year 3: 1,434 yards Year 4: 1,430 yards Year 5: 1,619 yards
Total: 5317 yards in his first 5 years
Both of these players have 1,000 more yards than him in the same amount of time. Heck DT had injury problems as well...
His dream of wanting 14+ million a year is over unless of course he wants to go to the Browns.
I guess Pace has to look at AJ's attempt to stay healthy in the context of what he did to stay healthy. He initially took full blame in his statement but then said the supplement was recommended so who knows how this ends up.
His talent is undeniable . So is his injury history . Couple that with his suspension and I'd bet that he's lost 'some' money - sure some team is going to offer him a good contract with more money than most ... but it won't be what it could have been and it comes with more risk than a player with a 'cleaner' backstory .
I'd still like to see him on the Bears , but not at ridiculous money , and if someone offers more and he walks away , then c'est la vie - we can spend it on other players who can also make us better .

Anyone who thinks this impacts AJ's future income is fooling themselves. Anyone who doesn't think AJ will get top 5-10 money is fooling themselves. Tavon Austin is getting 10.5 mill per year...you don't think AJ is getting anywhere from 12 to 14 million a year as the top player at his position in free agency? I want some of that stuff you're smoking! It's very simple...and I've gone over it a million times. He's the best at his position available in free agency, the salary cap is going up, there are multiple teams with needs who have very good cap space. Here are the teams with about 30 million or more in cap space this off season:
You going to tell me a team like the Patriots, the Bucs, the 49ers, the Panthers, or the Titans won't be very....VERY interested in a player with the talent AJ has? You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think any different.
Here's something everyone should keep in mind when considering what Jeffery is going to get paid. We all know that he's going to get paid around 14 million by some team next year and some feel that's way too much. Here is a list of WRs that will be getting new contracts in the next two years. Many of them will be getting close to what Jeffery is asking now and some will get much more.
Antonio Brown Sammy Watkins Mike Evans Odell Beckham Jr Brandin Cooks Kelvin Benjamin DeAndre Hopkins Allen Robinson Jordan Matthews Jarvis Landry Michael Floyd Terrelle Pryor
After all of these guys get paid you will see Jeffery falling back out of the top 10 paid WRs. You'll see that his pay is perfectly fine because that's what the market is for players of his caliber. If you want a good WR you better sign him now or hope you get lucky drafting them because it's only going to cost more as years go by.

Thank you Hawk. I have been trying to make this point to some people for what seems like 2 years! AJ's contract might be top 5 for a year and then it will go down from there.

I remember posting almost this exact thing back on the old board a long time ago and it either got ignored or went over people's heads. I just think some don't quite understand it. Apparently you can just get a cheap, stud WR whenever you want or you can just have a bunch of scrubs and do just as well. Obviously the less talent you have on a team the better you will do, right?
