He should have just smoked some weed if he wanted to reduce inflammation! LOL...if he passed his drug test in training camp he won't be tested for it again.
Dont care if it's BS excuse or real, I just hope we resign him and use this to get a better deal for the Bears. I dont want to see the only star WR the Bears have drafted (ever?) play for another team just because PED.
When you are the best player at your position in free agency guess what happens? You get paid! This won't affect a future contract.
Agreed. Why the media guys tend to monstracize stuff like this is beyond me. It's not like he tested positive for illegal drugs and AJ's rep is impeccable. He screwed up somehow and the question that needs answering for me is who suggested that supplement to begin with? Was it Bears personnel or someone else?
Anyone working with an NFL player should also be aware of any prohibited substances that product may have and AJ should have as well. I've been in the Broncos locker room and there is a huge list of them posted on the wall on a larger than poster size sign that lists them. It couldn't be more obvious and there are a lot of names on that list.
But despite that AJ won't have any trouble attracting offers as a UFA and neither will Cutler. The needs of other teams are too great to pass on that kind of talent.

Yeah...as a trainer I don't recommend anything to my pro guys that I know may have any sort of banned substance in it. As for the signs in the locker room...I can tell you with almost 100% certainty no player reads those things. I know this may come as a shock, but it's true. And even if they do, like I said...the supplement could have that substance in it, but not list it.

Yeah, I didn't read that 'til after I posted. My bad.
I can believe they don't read the list or pay as much attention to it as they should but when you've just made a mistake that could cost you in excess of $3 mil in salary that should be a wake up call to all of them. It's a damn costly oversight.
This PED suspension doesn't mean anything. It changes nothing other than what he's making the rest of this year. Jeffery is going to get paid a lot of money next year by some team regardless of this. The Bears either need to sign him or completely start over after a two year rebuild. Nothing like wasting a two year rebuild just to basically start over again.
I'm sticking with my stance on signing him long term yet. Draft a QB. Strengthen the OL. May have to draft another WR. Keep or trade Cutler. Get rid of Fox and Loggains.
I would be fine signing AJ, and still hope we do that. And I agree that he will get a solid contract from us or another team. But it certainly didn't help his case by getting suspended... if nothing else, from a production standpoint. His last four years:
2013: 1,421 2014: 1,133 2015: 807 2016: 630
Certainly he will get the big payday. But that payday could have been greater if he had a dominating season. His production is going the wrong way since 2013. Certainly there are reasons for that (like the drug suspension this year). But wouldn't it have helped if he had a stellar 1,000+ yard season this year?

I haven't had my coffee yet. I'm obviously not awake because my first time glossing over I thought the Broncos had a huge list of PED offenders posted on the wall of their locker room.

Wow if that isn't the needle pointing in the wrong direction! But as I'd guess the majority on this board have seen nearly every game over the 4 seasons we all realize why. Still the questions remain: Can he put up the #'s of 4 years ago being the #1 guy? Can he stay healthy to put up those #'s? It's quite a conundrum because the Bears don't want to be hamstrung like they were with Cutler's contract once they finally have talent (hoping) that will also be looking for big money extensions.

To the non-Bears fan who just looks at those numbers only it looks bad for Jeffery. For the person that actually watches the games and looks deeper at his stats they see a guy that is just as good as he's always been. The talent has not dropped. This is why other teams will be willing to pay him a lot of money, because their scouts know how good he is.
