I can't find the article anymore, but I remember how they said that Pace wanted Bowles and George and Ted pressured him to take the more experienced candidate. Not saying I'm right, though.
Doubtful. Bowels was interviewed four days before John Fox parted ways with Denver, giving Pace plenty of time to pounce. Hell, Atlanta hired him the same day Pace interviewed Fox...so it is not like hiring one or the other was ever an option.
So...if the Bears fire John Fox...should Vic Fangio be considered for the job?
If they plan on keeping him around I'd say yes. Offer him the final two year of Fox's deal first before looking elsewhere. Do that only if he declines and then try to keep him on as DC.
I think part of the perceived value in Fox was his ability to draw coordinators like Vic Fangio and Gase here. Obviously, that wasn't enough.
Gase is gone and if we plan on keeping Fangio without Fox then it should probably be him we at least offer the HC job to before looking elsewhere. He's the only high level coach whose actually produced as he was hired to do.
I mentioned this in the other thread. I'd be okay with Fangio as HC. But it would be critically important to get him a solid OC. Fangio might be a veteran coach who could attract good coordinators too. One "draw" to coordinators coming here under Fangio, is that at his age he probably won't coach a whole lot longer. If they could fix the team here, Fangio could retire and a coordinator could possibly step up as HC then.

Well as I posted before Norv Turner is out there now whose a fit for the type of guy we could use with our personnel. I might prefer some younger guys but if there's gonna be a change I sense somehow that it needs to be done with as little disruption to what gains have been made as possible and knowing this team with the most minimal impact on the economics of a coaching change. This plan addresses that.
Actually, fox was pace's guy. I don't know how much "input" he got from ownership, but Pace picked him. Pace should fire him. He is going through the motions and collecting a paycheck and hitting all the bars on the way to the bank. You can ask anyone living in bourbonais where he spent most of his time in training camp...the bars. Like Lance Briggs and Julius peppers, he mailed it in. Make Fangio head coach, fire fox, keep magazu. Clean house other than that.

Yeah... I'm not 100% on board that he was Pace's guy either

They should keep Fox is it's the sole reason they can keep Vic Fangio. No Bears fan has ever seen a great 3-4 Defense (except the oppositions) and if they get Vic some talent I think he's the DC to do it.

We will have a new QB and we should get a new HC too. Clean the Coaching staff and start from scratch. If the new HC wants Fangio badly and Fangio wants to stay, Keep him. Other than that we have to start over new and finish the rebuild.
