I can't find the article anymore, but I remember how they said that Pace wanted Bowles and George and Ted pressured him to take the more experienced candidate. Not saying I'm right, though.
Doubtful. Bowels was interviewed four days before John Fox parted ways with Denver, giving Pace plenty of time to pounce. Hell, Atlanta hired him the same day Pace interviewed Fox...so it is not like hiring one or the other was ever an option.
So...if the Bears fire John Fox...should Vic Fangio be considered for the job?
As much as I am reluctant to engage in the Browns-like habit of changing coaches all the time, I do think Fox and the Logg have to go in January. The team has looked woefully unprepared to play game after game after game this season. Obviously neeeded halftime adjustments have been repeatedly lacking. Clock management has been terrible at several points. And the OC seemingly can't get it through his thick head that the 2016 Bears can't possibly succeed by abandoning the run as they continue to do. All that doesn't even take into account some very questionable player evaluation decisions (starting Langford over Howard, for ex).
We are going to have a new QB and a I think a new HC and OC deserve the chance to develop him.
Where are you guys getting that Fox isn't Pace's guy? The Mckaskeys brought in consultants to help them pick a GM that would "own" this team and make good decisions. Everything surrounding the Fox hire said it was Pace's choice. In fact as soon as Fox became available Pace is the one who reached out and brought him in right away. At the press conference when they announced Fox Pace is the one who stated that once Fox became available it was a game changer in the HC search. I haven't seen one indication whatsoever that bringing in Fox was anyone's decision other than Pace.

Fox and Logg need to go.
I don't if he will, but what he said yesterday should have warranted a fire.

Yep.
John Fox is really tight with Sean Payton from their days with the Giants. An endorcement from Payton may have really swung Fox into favor.

I don't see the problem with firing after 2 seasons if progress/wins aren't there. You have to because careers are too short and FA makes it almost impossible to keep teams together while the HC figures it out.
You need:
(1) HC that can play the matchup game and make adjustments as the game goes along. (2) A QB that doesn't turn the ball over.
So you need Belichick/Brady or Carroll/Wilson or until recently McCarthy/Rogers. Look at the long tenured coaches in the NFL. None of them are currently looking for a QB. Unless you can find this combo, you are one and done most years if you even make the playoffs. At least the Browns are trying. They are trying to find a Belichick and a Brady. Anyone want to bet that they find their combo before the Bears? I've post before and it gets ignored but the Raiders went through 6 coaches in 8 years, and now it looks like they may have something. Along the way, they have drafted play-makers on both sides of the ball, signed cost-effective FAs and built themselves up. 6 coaches in 8 years.
Got to do it IMO. Fire Fox, trade/cut Cutler and turn the team over to a new HC and a new QB. See what you have. the league knows after 2 seasons if you have it or not. Guys that don't get cut, guys that get it or are getting it stick around. You'll know in 2 seasons in the HC and QB are there to build around. If they aren't cut bait and try again.
The alternative is turning into the Jeff Fisher Rams. 8-8, followed by 7-9, followed by 8-8, followed by 7-9 followed, by 9-7 and a WC (one and done), followed by 8-8....You don't keep bad HCs you fire them and move on. Firing HC isn't why the Browns suck, they suck because they can't draft.
I think part of the perceived value in Fox was his ability to draw coordinators like Vic Fangio and Gase here. Obviously, that wasn't enough.
Gase is gone and if we plan on keeping Fangio without Fox then it should probably be him we at least offer the HC job to before looking elsewhere. He's the only high level coach whose actually produced as he was hired to do.
