Don't really understand the obsession over Cobb. He's 31 and really hasn't been a "special player" in several years.
What's the big deal?
Rodgers wanted him back apparently and the Packers said they would trade for him. Houston had their chance and blew it. I'd would have declared Cobb my #1 and a player we we're building around and demanded a first and a second.
These GM's know each other... GB probably let them know anything higher than a six wasn't going to cut it... They NEVER would have given a first or second for him...
Every WR is special w/ AR under center. And his numbers vs. the Bears aren't too bad, either.
Between 2011 and 2018, he's faced us 15 times and scored 9 TDs. AR and Cobb get along pretty well, so I think it was a smart move by GB to bring him back.
Cobb was fantastic back then but he hasn't been like that last few seasons and is now 31.
Last season he only played 10 games (injured 2 of last 3 years) and had 441 yards. Stats you are citing are OLD NEWS.
Right, This was about pleasing the MVP, not about make a wise roster move...
I'll give him major props for bluntness and honesty (rare for sports) but yeesh some of the specific players he complained about were awful examples.
Randall Cobb is nothing more than a WR4 at this point. Jake Kumerow? Guy is a practice squad/fringe roster player only. Julius Peppers? Can't be serious here! Great player in his prime but completely washed up by the time GB moved on from him.
Kinda felt like Rodgers wants control over who they draft, who they sign, and who they keep and he wants "his friends" rather than making sound judgments.
With the new contract he just signed, Green Bay is now ~$50-million dollars over the cap next season. $50-mil. That's good for the Bears though. Basically, GB has a total clown show now as the team moves forward. Rodgers is the ringmaster in Green Bay now. It's his franchise. Honestly, in hindsight, it would have been better for Green Bay to have moved on from Rodgers. The guy has crazy talent, and, well, mentally he seems to be off-the-rails now. I mean, really pretty nuts. Has a "crazy look" in his eyes too. Dude doesn't look "right" at all.
LINK Aaron Rodgers says he considered retirement during Packers standoff, wanted more say in team decisions
"I think we can all understand Green Bay isn't a huge vacation destination. People are coming here to play with me... "
LINK Packers now almost $50M over salary cap in 2022 after Aaron Rodgers restructure
I completely disagree.. This team is loaded... One last chance at a SB with Rodgers... Love was NOT ready to come in and start after the whole Covid off season in 2020... Love would have been ruined by that gauntlet of defenses GB goes against starting around week 3: 49ers, Steelers, --, Bears, Redskins, then later Seahawks, Vikings, Rams, Bears, Ravens, Browns, Vikings... Let Rodgers deal with that shit this year, no reason to ruin Love's confidence....

No question Rodgers was given a lot more control. He made that clear in his press conference when he threw management under the bus.
I agree with you that this looks like a short-term win for GB (make a run this year with Rodgers back in the fold) but a long-term loser. It sounds like Rodgers wants "his guys" only and the personnel choices he mentioned weren't exactly confidence-inspiring. Don't think he will be nearly as good a draft scout or GM as he is a QB.
Which leads me back to what I was talking about a couple months ago with this situation--Rodgers this offseason was at MAX TRADE VALUE. Green Bay could have gotten multiple FRPs and multiple players for him. For instance, in a trade with Denver, could have gotten Surtain, Chubb, plus multiple FRPs. GB denied they ever were interested in trading him but you know behind the scenes they weighed the possible pros and cons seriously.
The conclusion I reach from the final decision THEY reached is the same one that Hoge & Jahns just mentioned in a recent podcast----this points to Jordan Love really really really sucking bad.
I gotta believe that, if they were truly excited about Jordan Love going forward, Rodgers probably would have been traded.
Actually nobody knows what they have in Love, they said he looked good in the off season... He hadn't taken any live snaps last year was the problem... Having Rodgers back and Giving Love all the preseason reps allows us to see if we have something there or if we have to continue to kiss Rodger's ass next year... Having Rodgers back bought us valuable time to evaluate Love with a training camp and preseason...
What a dumb and arrogant thing to say. Can you imagine Brady, Manning or Favre saying anything like this? Trashing the city that loves you and then making it about you (again). I'm sorry, but this right there is why he's never going to be a leader.
You ever been to goon bay? He's not wrong about that, but, that is definitely NOT something you say if that's your town, your team, your fans. It's always been all about him, and his stats. Nothing else.
Numerous retired packers still live here including Mike Pennel and Harry Sidney. Harry made the comment this week to the effect: I've lived all over the country and Green Bay epitomizes the American Dream. This is the best place I've ever lived.... Not everyone needs the club scene....
Texans only got a 6th and have to pay part of Cobb's salary? SMH.
Why is that surprising? he's old, slow and injury prone....
Exactly the point I was making earlier. Randall Cobb is past his prime and hasn't been a special player in a couple years.
So why is getting him back soooooo important to Rodgers? It can't be because of pure playmaking ability...because if he had that he would have cost way more than a throwaway late round pick.
It sounds like Rodgers wants "his guys" and that may not be the right move for the team.

That all may be true but doesn't it strike you as strange that GB moved UP in the 1st round to draft Love and then healthy scratched him all year long? He was the #3 QB all year so got few practice reps and didn't dress for a single game.
That's very odd for a rookie QB you thought highly enough to draft in the 1st round.
I just don't understand GB's handling of the entire Love-Rodgers situation.

That's a good point. I do believe the Packers have a legit shot at a Super Bowl this year with Rodgers. And Rodgers is amazing against great defenses. The team is loaded. I get that. Do you think Rodgers settles down and stays after this season. Or do you thing he'll move on?

he was a heathy scratch because covid stripped him of having any off season. GB had a number two last year capable of winning a game or two for them. Love was basically a college quarterback having been robbed of the OTA’s, minicamps, preseason and training camp

little chance he’s back next year. This is like the marriage that stays together until the youngest graduates next year
