I still gotta believe Rodgers will play for the Packers this season. There's just too much money at stake here for him to not show.
LINK Packers offered to make Aaron Rodgers the NFL's highest-paid quarterback, per report; New details emerge Aaron Rodgers apparently got an offer that would have paid him more money than Patrick Mahomes
According to The Athletic, the Packers got so desperate to fix things with Rodgers that they offered to make him the NFL's highest paid quarterback. ESPN's Adam Schefter recently revealed the length of the offer -- two seasons that would have kept the Packers quarterback in Green Bay for five more seasons. Rodgers would have been the highest-paid player in the NFL with his new deal, but the Packers quarterback declined the offer.
Green Bay reportedly was willing to give Rodgers more than $45 million per year, which would have been a huge raise over the $21.5 million that Rodgers is due to make this year ($14.7 million salary plus $6.8 million roster bonus) The current title of highest-paid QB belongs to Patrick Mahomes, who signed a 10-year, $450 million extension in July.

But apparently he doesn't care about the money...or he would have signed the deal that would have made him the highest paid QB in the league. I keep trying to tell everyone...this guy HOLDS A GRUDGE!

Seems like a strange conclusion to draw given that Schefter's report today clearly said otherwise. This seems to be one of the rare times when it ISN'T about money.

We'll see. He loses $35-million dollars if he doesn't play (LINK). As wealthy as he is, that's still a significant financial hit to absorb, just to prove a point. I will believe it when I see it. I just can't quite get my head around the thought of flushing $35-million dollars down the toilet just to prove a point. The guy who will get hurt the most here is himself. And if he does go through with this he's ultimately going to look pretty stupid. It's like that old time saying - "cutting your nose off to spite your face" - can you do that? Sure. But it's probably not a good move.

All that is true but also assumes there won't be a trade. Packers say they're not trading him--which is always what teams say right up until the very moment they actually do.
You are right that a long holdout or "retirement" would cost Rodgers lots of coin. I tend to look at it another way: is he just gonna climb down now from his high horse and say "aw, shucks, I didn't really mean to suggest there was a rift. It was all just a big misunderstanding"?
I dunno but that doesn't seem like something a guy like Rodgers is gonna do.

THE MAN DOESN'T TALK TO HIS OWN FAMILY ANY MORE!!!! LOL!!! You think he cares about money when he already has a crap ton of it?

I definitely get that. I do. I think it's crazy but I get it.
Geebus. How toxic does an organization have to be for this to occur?
+1
Right... it is really a crazy situation. The Green Bay Packers offer to make their QB a 5-year deal (a 2 year extension) that would make him the richest man in the NFL. The highest paid QB in the NFL. The highest paid player in the NFL. The QB, Aaron Rodgers, (arguably) probably has his best opportunity to win a Super Bowl in 2021, with the Packers. He knows the system, scheme, players, coaches, opponents & opposing defenses like the back of his hand. He's not having to adapt to some new team, scheme etc etc etc in another division.
Okay. That's one option for AR. Stay with the team that owns the Division each year and has a legit chance to win a SB - all while being made the richest man in the NFL.
Or, sit this season and LOSE $35-million dollars, all because he is pissed the team had the audacity to draft a player without consulting him. LOL. Really? It makes Aaron Rodgers look like a crazy-grudge-holder ass. Can he do this? Certainly. Should he do this? LOL, probably not. I think some of these headcase divas are pure nutcases.
Can Rodgers "hurt" Green Bay here? Sure. But it's like a fly lands on your bare foot and you kill it with a shotgun. You definitely "hurt" the fly... but blowing off your foot with a shotgun probably isn't the best decision there. But yes, you've got the fly. Crazy stuff we're watching here.

JABF, I agree with you that Rodgers' stance is illogical to a 3rd party observer. His grievances against management, although understandable IMO, have been taken way too far. I think that's why GB was caught flat-footed. It was stupid of them to ignore his input and instead draft Love when and how they did but they probably figured it would easily get smoothed over and he would get over it.
Turns out, that was a pretty poor judgment on their part because, as has been pointed out here multiple times, Rodgers is an epic grudge-holder who seems willing to burn lots of bridges to make his point. This is a guy who won't talk to his own family despite their public attempts to reconcile and didn't even call his own mom to check on her during those terrible California wildfires a couple years ago right in her area.
This isn't a "logical" dude. I certainly could be wrong but I don't see him climbing down now once he's gone this far. I think he wants OUT and is willing to pay any price to get out.
