Langford is an OK back, and I really think we can sometimes use him in a slot too, because unlike some I believe he knows how to catch it. But, no way hes a starting RB any more. Fox isnt that senile.
If the staff is smart they keep rolling with Howard as the starter and use Carey to spell him with Langford as a more situational back. I think it seems pretty obvious.
In a game where Howard is struggling then you just go with whoever is getting the job done but always start with Howard.
I know some people say Langford failed to take over for Forte which is the most ignorant statement i have read today since he has had a grand total of 31 carries in 3 regular season games since Forte has left, and we are talking about replacing Forte...smh
I agree they need to keep rolling with Howard as the #1....then let Langford and Carey fight over the #2 spot.

Why? He was handed the starting job in preseason and once the season began he failed to produce. What's ignorant about that? His ypc are on par with last year which wasn't good enough and his receiving stats are down. He wasn't getting the job done and Howard and Carey are.

I actually agree with seqq. Langford hasn't been healthy enough to prove his worth but it's Howard's job as the starter right now. I really hope the team stays healthy the rest of the year so I can get an accurate look at what this team can be.

IMHO you can tell an awful lot about all three backs just by watching them play. Langford has a lot of Matt Forte in him in that he needs space to do his thing. Matt always struggled between the tackles when he was bottled up due to his longer stride and I think Langford has a bit of that to him as well. It's when you can get them to the edge or get a pass to them in the open field where there most dangerous.
But I don't think it's ignorant to state facts based on both stats and observations. I don't question the part of about a lack of stats but I do object a bit to someone saying a comment made on what my eyes have seen backed by those stats is in any way ignorant.
I guess I just think Langford has value and I see all too many times people saying how Langford is terrible or just worthless. I think he just needs to be used the right way. I agree with you that he's not a between the tackles kind of back, that seems to be more what Howard is good at. I think Langford is a great compliment to Howard. What I like about both of them is that they can both run and catch the ball but they still have different styles of running which makes it hard for teams to defend them. What I mean by that is if the Bears bring Langford in they can't just assume it's going to be a pass because he's the passing RB, the Bears could easily run with him.
I've said it before, I really think the backfield could be very similar to the Bengals and that's not a bad thing.

Agreed. I've just never believed Langford did enough to be handed the starters job over either Howard or Carey. If the plan is to base the offense on a strong ball control game then I prefer the backs who'll get me positive yardage 9 times out of 10 so that we don't end up in 3rd and long situations.
Howard and Carey excel at that and both have shown they can break off longer runs at times as well. Langford's strength is his speed and big play ability so he is a good compliment to the other two and I hope they find ways to use him like that. He's guy you can use to break another teams back with a long run whereas IHMO Howard and Carey are who you use to wear a defense down.
I've never thought Langford was horrible I just don't see him as the starter but at one time Fox apparently did. That's what I've criticized.
