IMO the most impactful thing that can be done outside of top GM change is a new HC. No more "tactical genius" guru's. Acquire a coach that can handle adversity and make adjustments.
After that, I'm sorry to say a decent QB is not going to be around when it's the Bears turn. Going OL in the draft along with RB's will perhaps result in at least more ball control and resting the D. FA OL will also help in this regard.
Not a ton of draft material and a squandering of a once elite D has led to this. A multi year salvage job.
And you have to take them as early as possible. There are multiple posts on this board and all over the internet that show the drop off in success rate of QBs taken late in the draft. Until you find one you can win "because of" you draft them early. When you have that guy, you can start taking QBs late hoping for a HOF-elite guy to drop in your lap. Taking the best defender available or fixing the OL with an OT is going to translate to a better record, meaning you still won't be in position to take a guy early. With 7 playoff teams moving forward, 8-8 is going to get a team in every year I'm willing to bet. Take the QB first and then draft the best OT you can get or the best edge.
Until the QB is fixed, this team stumbles between 9-7 and 7-9. And yes, Foles goes into the offseason as the #1 QB because if you resign Mitch, you aren't taking a QB early. And no one wants to go into next year with Nichel Folbusky at QB.
It looks like this upcoming draft is loaded with OL talent to the point there may be 1st round talent well into the second round. I'm fine taking a QB with our 1st round pick and then drafting LT in the second round. Here's the deal though. I've seen drafts where the OL talent just wasn't that good and OL guys taken in the first round those years were not that good (Bears did that in years past too). But this upcoming draft looks pretty special for offensive linemen, from what I read. So maybe go QB/OL in this draft. I'm thinking OL in the 2nd round THIS year may also be BPA. Both. It doesn't get any better than that. We need a QB. We also need to fix out tackles on the OL.
I'd come back and draft QB again next year too. We probably won't know what we have in the QB drafted this year, for a few years down the road. But don't wait like we did with Trubisky before we draft another QB. The position is THAT important. Keep pulling that draft trigger until you are solid at the position. It's "Job One" if we truly want to be a good team. But yeah, draft tackles too. We can probably do both this year if that OL talent is as loaded as people are saying.

I have been following various mock draft predictions. I noticed that the “experts” at ESPN (Mel Kiper & Co.) project that Trey Lance will go to Washington at #19 (Bears have #20). If the Lance is still on the board at #15, I would like to see the Bears trade up a couple spots to get ahead of Washington. If Lance goes in the top 10, then my next target will be Jones or Trask. One of those guys will likely be there for us as the alternative to Trubisky. As far as Trubisky, I am hoping that some crazy GM offers him a ton of money as FA; otherwise, Bears will try like hell to resign him for another year. If we KNOW Trubisky is already gone on draft day, Pace will have no excuse not to draft a QB with our first pick.
Edit: I just found this one...
9. Chicago Bears (projected trade w/ Denver): Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State The Broncos are in a fascinating spot. If they feel that Drew Lock is not their QB of the future, they may look to stay in this spot and draft a new QB. However, if there is a team willing to come up and offer them future picks for the 10th pick, they should consider it. Dropping back 10 spots will not significantly reduce the talent available to them defensively. In this first-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft, that is exactly what they do. In the process, they pick up the Bears’ first-round pick in 2022 and a late-round pick in 2021. The Bears are in no-mans land with their quarterback situation. Realistically, they cannot cut Nick Foles without adding $3.7 million in dead money to their 2021 salary cap. Therefore, why not keep Nick Foles around and have him be the veteran presence for your rookie QB? After playing just one season at North Dakota State, Trey Lance is somewhat of an unknown. However, the upside is there, and the Bears could immediately replace Mitchell Trubisky, who is set to leave as a free agent. www.profootballnetwork.com/2021-nfl-mock-draft-first-round-rolfe-january/
Do any of you guys like this move? If Pace did this, I would forgive all his sins.

I honestly don't know. There's no easy answer here. That's the mess the Bears are in now. Yes, draft a QB. I expect Foles will be the guy for Nagy this year. I wonder about Pace/Nagy picking a QB and then be gone in 2022 and the new HC (being like Nagy and) not seeing the new QB as a good fit for what he wants to do here. I keep hoping the Bears franchise can change 30+ years of failure to find a franchise QB solution, but I'm not holding my breath.

We have no idea what Pace's and Nagy's contract lengths are. They went out of their way today to REFUSE to answer questions about that. Lotta speculation Pace got quietly extended.
JABF, I'm afraid that is what is going to happen ^^^. Which is why I have been arguing for a clean sweep so that everyone is on the same page, has their interests aligned, and isn't foolishly trying to "win now" to save their jobs.

Hub Arkush said it best, they didn't ask them about details or how much they're making, they were just asking when their contracts expire. I don't quite understand why they were so secret about it.

It seems like a pretty basic question to me. Maybe they have something to hide or be ashamed of.

These guys? Just no. Nothing to be ashamed of. They did their best! Its always important to do your best, and they did! We need to be forgivin. Hey, its not their fault that they suck balls. They deserve a third chance, and fourth after that. Good guys, young and solid. No drugs, only anabolics. Good, solid european roots (Nagy) and other ones surname says it all! Keep the Pace! Never surrender. Keep up the ...errr work.
Its football 101. Never divulge anything. Its sad and pathetic, but SOP these days.
I guess I can see the point of not wanting to trumpet the fact that they each have two years left cause maybe a DC prospect might look at that and say to him/her-self..." I'll wait for a different offer."
I don’t think Pace and Nagy can go another year without showing some progress. Therefore, all you guys who want them to dismantle the team to create cap space and draft picks are in fantasy land. They are going into 2021 season with the idea that they have just one more year to prove themselves. I just hope they realize that Trubisky is not the answer and will thus give it their best shot at drafting a QB in first round. If they let Trubisky and Robinson both leave as FA and do not draft a QB, then I surrender!
