I don’t think Pace and Nagy can go another year without showing some progress. Therefore, all you guys who want them to dismantle the team to create cap space and draft picks are in fantasy land. They are going into 2021 season with the idea that they have just one more year to prove themselves. I just hope they realize that Trubisky is not the answer and will thus give it their best shot at drafting a QB in first round. If they let Trubisky and Robinson both leave as FA and do not draft a QB, then I surrender!
David, the above is exactly WHY ownership shouldn't have cheap'ed out and kicked the can down the road one more year. As you stated, when you set up a "hot seat season" like they just did, short-term thinking tends to take over as those on the hot seats do whatever they can to save their jobs knowing it is "win or get fired" for them.
That may be fine when you already have a stacked roster and you're trying to push for a SB but it is definitely not fine with the situation the Bears are in right now.
Do you honestly believe this team is ready to compete in 2021? Do you honestly think we are just one draft or one splash FA signing away from making a SB run?
If you are being honest, you know the answer is "NO". The team doesn't even have a QB and even in the best of all words a rookie is going to need at least one year, probably 2, of development time.
So, to all of you who scoffed at the idea of needing a rebuild, I don't want to hear any bitching from you when Pace-Nagy mortgages more future draft capital or makes some expensive Hail Mary trade this offseason.

My biggest fear is that they invest in the o-line and d-line (which are both good things because you control the LOS you win games) and with Foles and improved line play, actually finish 8-8 or 9-7 as the WC once again. Onoce again, aren't in a position to draft a QB.
My other fear is that they go the Matt Schwab route and take a swing at a Winston/Heinicke/T.Taylor/Minshew because they are QBs you can "win with."
Then I wake up screaming, clutching my Kyle Orton pillow, and sob myself back to sleep.

------------ I promise I will not bitch if the Bears mortgage next year's draft to move up and get Trey Lance. He has the ability to run Nagy's offense, run the ball himself, and avoid getting sacked. Take a look at his highlights video and you'll see what I mean. My fear is that they will resign Trubisky, because Pace has too much ego to just admit he blew it and cut his loses. The other dumb move I fear from Pace is that he won't resign Robinson.
If Pace does what I want instead of what I fear, the Bears are going to be a better team in 2021 than you think...no worse than 10-6 and probably better if the defense stays reasonably healthy for the whole season.

It's way too early to know for sure of course but Lance likely will be out of reach for us. We will have to see but then again we really don't have extra draft capital to move up much in the 1st round. Squandering draft capital on Pace's love-projects (e.g., Mitch Trubisky, Anthony Miller, etc.) has been very damaging.
Also keep in mind that Trey Lance played against low level college competition at NDSU and only had one game this year. Carson Wentz went to the same school and got benched this season and lost his job as a pro. We just spent 4 years hoping against hope another QB with modest NCAA credentials wouldn't become a total bust and we were wrong.
Trey Lance may end up being great, dunno. Just sayin' there's some serious red flags there.

--------- Here is the scenario: If Denver is not planning to draft Lance (big IF), then we can give them our 20th this year and first round pick next year. That should do it, but I would be willing to throw in a 4th rounder or something like that to close the deal. Every GM can look at the same video I posted, and 26 of them showed up to scout that one game he played in 2020. Sure, there is no guarantee here, but the Bears need to start ROLLING THE DICE on QB's if we are ever going to get one. If Lance is a good as I am expecting, we are set at QB for the next 15-20 years, as he is only 20 years old. Anyway, I will be glued to my TV and praying on April 29.
If the Bears don't get him, then I hope he goes to the 49ers. That will make my son very happy.

Have no clear picture yet on how the top-10 will shake out (other than knowing Lawrence is going #1 for sure) but yeah I agree with you that there's almost no price too high to secure a long-term franchise starter capable of winning multiple championships.
Believe me, I hope your analysis of Lance is spot on cuz he looks like the only one of the top-4 QB prospects we have any chance at at all.

If Lance is impressive at the combine, don’t be surprised if he moves up to third QB taken.

It sounds like he'll be a top-10 pick. We are at 20. He'd be a gamble like Trubisky (not much game experience) but maybe worth the gamble. He'd be a project (he should be anyway). Walter Football compares him to Josh Allen.

--------- I have been studying all these mock drafts. Unless everybody is wrong, he is definitely going top-10. My worst fear right now is that he will go to the Lions and then we will have to deal with him for the rest of my life. The Lions may be thinking the same in reverse, in which case they take him to make sure the Bears can't. So, we need to trade up to a spot ahead of Lions....maybe Eagles at #6. Unfortunately, what I am also hearing is that Pace is not willing to gamble on what you call a "project" next year, because he is fired unless the Bears show some significant progress this season...meaning 10+wins and at least one playoff win. Therefore, the smart money says Pace will go after whatever veteran proven QB is available (D. Carr most likely). That is not what I want, but it seems more likely than moving up to get Lance.
