Like ya'll, I think it's a stretch. Like being laid out on the rack with mechanical levers and pulleys popping sockets stretch or a drawn and quarter stretch.
A slightly more plausible stretch - though also unlikely - would be, can the Bears reverse their record in the second half of play going 6-2 rather than 2-6?
Doubtful.
I'd go with that being a higher likelihood than running the table which means we've shown a modest improvement over 2015 and when the injury card gets played it gets Fox another year. Whether or not Cutler gets one depends on his performance over those 8 games and with Hoyer out of the picture it's his job to win or lose all on his own now.
footballoutsiders gives the Bears a 4.9% chance for what its worth. They have the Bears ranked as the 15th best team in the league. OFF is ranked 13th, DEF 15th and ST 15th. They estimate the team should have 4 wins at this point.
Should and do are several miles apart but I think they're correct. The Indy and Jax games were certainly winnable to the very end and GB might have been as well had Cutler been playing and not Hoyer.
Then the Good Trade Down Fairy comes and rewards you with a trade down where some team gives you a 1st and a 2nd this year and a 1st and a 3rd next year for your pick. You can always trade down.
Given the looks of the top prospects that may be the way to go should we end up in that spot. IMHO those picks and keeping Cutler around will do far more good as far as completing the restocking of the offense and defense than the gamble on any of the 2017 top QBs.
Things can always change but I don't see a franchise type QB in the bunch so far.
I want to see us beat GB and in a perfect world sweep Viks and Lions. If we can beat teams in the division, everything gets easier (drafting, playoff chances, FA).
I am more disappointed Fox wasn't fired after the Minn win.
That may have saved him but probably not. The Bears organization is not one to fire a HC midseason even if it may have been deserved. Maybe Fox will loosen his grip on some stuff and this team will begin to get fired up and have some fun winning again.
