There are different varieties of RB. I like what we have in Howard. He gets it done. That's all I care about. If he's not the fastest, that's fine with me.
I agree JABF. He's got some wiggle to him, he runs hard and when he gets good blocking he makes the most of it. I'm perfectly ok with Howard.
And it looks like it takes a crew to take him down..His legs don't stop!!
I think his scouting report did a great job nailing the kind of player he is:
STRENGTHS Showed ability to step his game up against top competition at both UAB and Indiana. Rushed for at least 145 yards in every full game he played. Natural runner who combines tempo with a special feel for spacial relationships. Pro-ready vision gives him outstanding feel for run lane developments at the line of scrimmage and onto the second level. Consistently chooses best angles and creases for optimal yardage. For a big back, can make himself skinny through tight quarters. Decisive and punishing. Drops pads and accelerates into contact to batter would-be tacklers on the second and third levels. Drives legs through arm tackles and goes about his work. Hard-charging when its third- or fourth-and-short. Showed potential in screen game as receiver.
WEAKNESSES Doesn't have sudden one-cut ability and has to tap brakes to hit it downhill on outside zone runs. One-speed runner. Can be chased down by backside sprinters before getting to the second level. Takes big hits due to bruising running style. Scouts concerned about ability to stay healthy. Missed four games and parts of three others with knee and ankle injuries. Upright pads and narrow base leads to slips and balance issues when trying to make sharp cuts. Rarely factored into passing game at UAB or Indiana.
I haven't seen the balance issues so much yet, nor have I seen him take any big hits, but the rest of it seems pretty spot on.

I know we all liked that huge 69 yard run. But that nifty shovel pass from Cutler was pretty good as well. IMO it is the kind of play that can tear the heart out of a defense as they think they have the QB for a loss and BOOM, the RB rips off a 20+ yard gain.

It surprised the shiite out of me. I figured Cutty was down for the count.

Howard is the type of back that will wear the Defense down.
Calling BS on Jordan running this fast in full football gear, Usain Bolt only ran 27.44 mpg in the 2014 Olympics(fastest man on the planet). But Howard ran 20 mph in full football pads carrying a football on in a full olympic sprint w/less then ideal conditions?

Vick only ran 21 mpg, which is faster the AP. Watch Howard, then go watch AP and Vick and tell me you believe Howard is that fast.
There are as many ways to time or measure speed as there are to debate this. I only posted this thread as somewhat of a counter to those who though Howard looked slow. I see him as being more of a quick burst sprinter over 10-30 yards than I do as 100 yard dash winner.
He's not exactly slow because no one even touched him on his TD run so we know he can get to the edge at time if he has to and the one guy who did run him down on Monday is a 4.4 DB and we know Howard is considered a 4.6 guy. That's not exactly slow but he's not speed back either and he's not expected to be.
The NFL produced those numbers and who knows how in the hell they came up with them but they're mostly official nonsense. No one won a new Cadillac for having the best top end speed this week so it wasn't like some kind of hole in one contest and tell me, just how much difference is there between a guy who ran 22.0 mph and a who ran 21.9 or 21.7?
All in all it's meaningless except for pages and pages of debate which is OK but there is no end point to this is there? No one is gonna be able to prove much of anything here our eyes didn't already tell us. So can or did Howard top 22.0 mph? Damned if I know anymore than I know how they came up with 27.44 mph in the Olympics but I would say that 5+ mph is a huge difference so each is possible IF MEASURED THE EXACT SAME WAY........but that isn't likely either.
So this is gettin' like it's the 1960s all over again and some guy is sayin my 442 is faster than your GTO and another guy claiming his Shelby Mustang is faster than both but nobodies racing today so how you gonna prove it? Factory specs. LOL That's pretty much what we have here. Just some numbers from the NFL and elsewhere that say what they say.
Well count me as one who'll agree that Usain Bolt would smoke Jordan Howard in a footrace in full football dress and carrying a football. As for the rest I have no opinion.
I'm not trying to say he's slow, but he's lacking the elite gear that will stop him from getting caught from behind like he did in Indy/Minny.
I took exception w/the idea that he reminded someone of AP, he's not AP, not even close, he's more Bettis then AP, and honestly when you watched Bettis run he still looked quicker; but then again I wouldn't compare anyone to 2 HoF players in their rookie year, that's unfair.
But he's not fast. guy looks like a truck instead of a ferrari. Nothing wrong w/that, but lets not act like the truck isn't a truck.
