We are always being told the NFL is a business. And that's true. I wonder how financially secure the 32 franchises will be after this year. I'm not talking about cap woes. I'm talking about the 32 businesses... will all 32 survive this year? I'm not saying any won't, but just wondering. I suspect 2021 will see some surprisingly big companies go under from this year's financial hit due to the Covid.

Yup, after reading the last couple of posts I am 100% convinced the NFL & NFLPA will hammer out some agreement to elevate the ceiling to hopefully 190-195M. Just look at all the teams in the red (Figure in parenthesis) next year. That would be suicide for at least 8-10 teams to try and survive or cut, restructure, etc.
2nd column is current real CAP and 3rd column is approximate CAP with 51 players which seems difficult to calculate at the moment.
As expected, something will get worked out. There will be a cap decrease but it won't be catastrophic.
You'd have teams releasing a lot of guys and a lot of stars not playing next season if the cap were to drop too much. That wouldn't help the league long term.

That's what I have been saying for a while when people were bringing up doomsday scenarios.
If the owners tried to impose a big across the board cap decline, virtually every team would have to make serious cuts and that would piss the NFLPA off big time. Imagine what the downward pressure would be on FA salaries and the like.
Something will get worked out whereby the covid-hit will get spread over multiple years to lessen the pain.

Yeah...I'd still be surprised to see crazy contracts being handed out this off season though. I don't think some players will get what they think they're going to get.

No question the FA market will be depressed. Players are used to salaries rising with the cap going up 10+% a year. Gonna be a rude awakening this offseason when the supply of FAs exceeds demand.

Which is very interesting and could potentially benefit us in regards to the ARob situation.

It could. He might end up regretting not taking whatever it was the Bears offered him...it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. What guys are going to be released adding to the market.
Philly seems to be in an "interesting" spot. As it stands, according to overthecap.com, they are going to be 60 plus mill OVER the cap and a lot of guys with big dead money numbers. If they cut Wentz post June 1, thats a $35 mill dead cap hit...he's virtually guaranteed to be there simply because they can't afford to cut him.
