Nobody thought that it would be Brian Hoyer, not Jay Cutler, leading the Bears to their first victory of the 2016 season.
Against the Lions, Hoyer completed 28 of 36 passes for 302 yards, two touchdowns. The most important thing is that Hoyer didn't turn the ball over. He has now thrown 97 passes in 2016 and has thrown ZERO interceptions. Pretty impressive.
There are now rumors that Hoyer's positive play has made Jay Cutler expendable and according to John Mullin of CSN, there is already a team interested in the Bears longtime starting QB.
Cutler’s future in Chicago is problematic, whether this week, this season or whenever. And that was open to question even before Hoyer demonstrated that the Bears may have the second coming of Josh McCown sitting on their depth chart.
Rumors started even during Sunday’s game that Cutler was the object of trade talks between the Bears and Miami Dolphins, who have a quarterback problem of their own but who also have Adam Gase as head coach. That would be the same Adam Gase who brought out the best in Cutler last season before the Dolphins hired him away and who lobbied hardest to stay with Cutler in the 2015 offseason.
CSNChicago.com confirmed later Sunday that nothing of the sort was in the works. But the speed with which the chatter arose was suggestive of how fluid the situation is perceived to be.
At the end of the quote it does say that there are no official talks going on right now, but there is definitely an interest. The Dolphins have Ryan Tannehill, who has been pretty bad this season. Maybe, former Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase doesn't think Tannehill is the future, so he wants someone he's worked with before to take his place....that's where Cutler comes in.
With a good defense, Cutler can be a very good quarterback. Through four games, Tannehill has proven to be just the opposite. Bringing in Cutler would let the Dolphins compete, while also developing their quarterback of the future. The Bears would most likely receive some draft picks for Cutler, which they desperately need to develop some depth on a depleted roster.
Brian Hoyer could finish the season as the starter and the Bears could re-sign him to a cheap deal in the offseason, while also drafting his eventual successor. The Bears are most likely going to cut Cutler for nothing after the season ends anyway....why not get something in return for him?

Should the Bears trade him?
