I thought Ryan locked on to Jones to much yesterday. Sucks when a QB know who the better recievers are and throws to them more than to the other guys.
This is a silly complaint and its not even true. Here are the targets in weeks one and two by Cutler
Jeffery 10, 98% of the OFF snaps White 12, 87% of the OFF snaps Royal 11, 72% of the OFF snaps Miller 6, 87% of the OFF snaps
Who is he locking in on (and before you complain, I checked the play by play and took out Hoyer's throws at the end of game 2.) What more do you want? You can hammer Cutler for lots of things, but this shouldn't be one of them.
I think what "some" people mean when they say "lock on", is the lack of progressions he makes at times. Not that he is locking on one player all game every game, or not getting it to different guys...with exception to the 2012 year LoL
So at least for me, if i have ever said locks on to one guy, I mean he appears to not going beyond option #1 in his passing progressions too often.
Exactly, he is locking onto his target pre snap, to the point that sometimes he is starting the WR down.

Come on guys, you can't have it both ways. When he tries to get rid of the ball fast he's criticized for "locking on to" targets and when he tries to go through his progressions he's criticized for "holding on to the ball too long." Cutler makes a number of mistakes in any given game but the way people twist every little thing he does around to become a criticism gets tiresome. It's to the point where if someone's knowledge of Cutler was confined to Bears message boards they'd wonder where all the TDs and yards came from when they looked at his stats.

Where is that coming from, cus i know i have never said that lol

Good to know, even though I think being able to determine if a QB is going through his reads from a TV broadcast is almost impossible. It ranks up there with assigning blame on blocking without knowing the blocking scheme, blaming a wr for running the wrong routel or blaming a DB (except Conte who blew chunks) for a blown coverage without knowing the coverage call. We think we know what is going on and sometimes we may be right, but without knowledge of the play call its impossible to be certain.

Well from that aspect we are all wrong so let's just pack it in...
But seriously, i do see more awareness, looking around, trying to find an open Wr, etc...from Qb's not named Jay Cutler recently.
And yes i see it on TV...like every other person not at the game. Also after last week I would almost be inclined to say that there seems to be an extra effort from others without Cutler in the line-up.
Maybe they just feel like they need to pick it up because superman isn't in there...but my tin-foil hat is shocking me and I am actually starting to think that they are tired of playing with Jay as their Qb...but only time will tell...plus it doesn't matter because of all that stuff you just said as well. CHEERS!!!

wait wut? Do you think locking onto a target pre snap is how nfl qb's get rid of the ball in a 3 step drop? wow

That's not at all what I said. When certain fans see Cutler throw the ball out quickly they accuse him of "locking onto" a receiver, predetermining who he is going to throw it to regardless of the defense, and then criticize him for not going through his progressions.
Thats NOT what they are saying. It has been a common theme w/Cutler that he stares down his target and won't move through progressions; to the point that at times he is staring down the target pre snap making the def have an easy read(Matthew int).
Not every 3 step drop has a pre determined read, again see Hoyer who is going through his progressions(not to say there aren't some btw, obviously a screen has only 1 read for example).
For me it's been watching him turn and look in 1 direction waiting for the WR to get open , and never seeing his head move ANY place else ... and it ain't hard to see that he isn't SCANNING the whole field at all . It's not every play , but it does happen on alot of plays - then the fumbles come when he finally realizes his stare-down target actually isn't gonna be open - THEN he starts to scan and a spit second later is when he's sacked and fumbles .
And guess what - I think he's really TRYING hard to make good throws . Ever notice when he starts to scramble it's like he suddenly snaps out of it ? It's like he's concentrating SO hard on the 1 receiver that by the time he realizes he's in trouble it's too late . They call that tunnel vision - and he has it .
