Mack is gonna play under his 5th year option this year unless they extend him and if not he becomes a UFA in 2019. If by then he's a guy who could help put us in a SB I'd say jump on him but I suspect that won't happen. If we have to pay top dollar anyway why give up booty for him now when we aren't a championship caliber team yet?
I think some of these writers envision the Bears being one or two (maybe 3) pieces away from deep playoff runs. If Mack were 25 or 26 it would be a nobrainer but you make valid points against going after Mack.
Mack is now 27 and I would love to have him for the next four years but we're talking around $70mil gtd over that period of time for a stud OLB whose averaged 10 sacks per year. Where does Floyd come into all of this? We drafted him to be that guy so why would we pursue Mack?
If Floyd does become a double digit sack guy next May we'll have to decide on his 5th year option or an extension. What will and extension cost us? Could we afford both if Floyd earns a top five deal @ $16-$17 mil per year or even a top ten deal @ $13-$14 mil.
Personally I think it's crazy talk from someone searching for some attention grabbing viewpoint.

Honestly I can't figure out this obsession w/ trading Howard. Basically every trade scenario involving the Bears includes Howard. Why?!
Do these guys fail to realize that Howard still is the ONLY great player we have on offense? Robinson has to prove he's back to 100%, Mitch still has a long way to go and Long might not be the same player he used to be. Howard is the only player worth a damn and yet you're willing to trade him? Give me a break.
No way I'd give up Howard AND two picks for Mack. He's great but also very expensive.
I actually proposed our 1st this year and next year's 2nd or vice versa. No more than that but we could tag him for 2 more years and get his prime 3 years for 51.8M in guarantees. About on par with what he would get with a long term contract, or slightly less. Still not a bad scenario.
I'd be happy to give them our #8 pick and next years 2nd which is actually worth a 2018 3rd. We get a stud edge rusher with a pick we would like to use for one anyway and I have no problem with a future pick OR with Howard since his value is in that range anyway but not all three.
If we're trading Jordan we may need the 2018 2nd to replace him. But where did this crazy idea come from anyway? Mack is already holding himself out of any offseason OTAs until his contract issue is addressed. Even if he was traded he'd be prone to doing the same with another team.
Sure, in theory we could tag him for two years only to piss him off enough that he'd be worthless as a team guy even if he did play and max effort would probably not be there. Basically Mack is either gonna get a Von Miller like deal from whoever he plays for or you won't want him anyway.
There is no way I see Pace or GMcC being OK with a contract that guarantees $65 mil or more. Not gonna happen.
Exactly. He's not even available and people are coming up with crazy trade scenarios.
LOL, give up a Pro Bowl RB whose been 1/2 of your offense, a top ten 2018 pick, AND a 2nd round 2018 for an OLB whose asking for a new deal with over $65 mil in guaranteed money huh? You all are nucking futz. Plus with our luck he'd blow out a knee in his first start and never be the same player.
If Khalil Mack was Jesus Christ in disguise he's still not worth that kind of booty.
I see you left out Macks acheivements while listing Howards so I'll fill in the blanks:
Khalil Mack:
3× Pro Bowl (2015–2017) 2× First-team All-Pro (2015, 2016) NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2016) Butkus Award (Pro) (2016) PFWA All-Rookie Team (2014)
So I would be giving up a pro bowl running back, a top 10 pick and a 2nd rounder for a 3 time pro bowler, a 2 time first team all defensive player, an NFL Defensive Player of the Year, an All Rookie Team member, and a Butkus award winner. As well as a guy who had just under half his teams sacks in 2015 and 2016, and a third of his teams sacks in 2017.

I'd take mack don't get me wrong, but I don't know that I'd do it for a 1st this year, a 2nd this year AND Howard. That is awful rich. I know Mack is a legit stud, but man that is a crazy price when the Bears are already short on picks.

Yeah...I ideally wouldn't want to give up this years second...and I don't think you'd really have to...but I think some people are discounting just how much of a friggen STUD Mack is.

That is why I said a good fantasy scenario would be this years 1st and our 2nd in 2019. Not gonna happen but not much else going on.

Oh ye of little MSU faith. These kinds of debates are precisely why we study at your prestigious University!! Why else would I hand over my very valueable Happy Meal Coupons? 😡😡😡

Just because I didn't list them doesn't mean I'm not aware of them. You know I always do my own research and I'll stand pat. I would NOT trade Howard and our two top 2018 picks for him or any other single player......period.
And in this case after having given up half a draft for him we'd need to sign him to a long term deal that guarantees him $70 mil or more and averages $20mil a year. That's a very pricey shopping spree isn't it?
Tell me this. Where does our boy Floyd come into all this? He's supposed to be our Khalil Mack. Next spring we have to either excercise our 5th year option or extend his deal. If he wants a top ten deal for $14-$15 mil then what?
You're living in a dream world brother. Fantasize all ya' like but Mack won't be playing here.
