Too many holes, too few draft picks. No way do I make that trade. It's too expensive for one player when we don't have that luxury. Besides, the three stooges let Jerome Howard go, they sucked after that. I don't like to see mistakes repeated.
Curly Howard is John Fox's stage name?
Nah. Curly has way too much brain power to be confused with Ol' Foxy.

LOL...yep...one of those holes being edge rusher. I do it in a heart beat...but I like the idea of giving up one of next years picks instead of two of this years. I can't believe more of you don't see the difference Mack would make in this defense and with that...the offense.
LOL, give up a Pro Bowl RB whose been 1/2 of your offense, a top ten 2018 pick, AND a 2nd round 2018 for an OLB whose asking for a new deal with over $65 mil in guaranteed money huh? You all are nucking futz. Plus with our luck he'd blow out a knee in his first start and never be the same player.

If Khalil Mack was Jesus Christ in disguise he's still not worth that kind of booty.
I actually proposed our 1st this year and next year's 2nd or vice versa. No more than that but we could tag him for 2 more years and get his prime 3 years for 51.8M in gurantees. About on par with what he would get with a long term contract, or slightly less. Still not a bad scenario.

I'd be happy to give them our #8 pick and next years 2nd which is actually worth a 2018 3rd. We get a stud edge rusher with a pick we would like to use for one anyway and I have no problem with a future pick OR with Howard since his value is in that range anyway but not all three.
If we're trading Jordan we may need the 2018 2nd to replace him. But where did this crazy idea come from anyway? Mack is already holding himself out of any offseason OTAs until his contract issue is addressed. Even if he was traded he'd be prone to doing the same with another team.
Sure, in theory we could tag him for two years only to piss him off enough that he'd be worthless as a team guy even if he did play and max effort would probably not be there. Basically Mack is either gonna get a Von Miller like deal from whoever he plays for or you won't want him anyway.
There is no way I see Pace or GMcC being OK with a contract that guarantees $65 mil or more. Not gonna happen.

While eitherGMaC or Teddy may be strictly against paying that kind of coin they will certainly need to do it once:
1. Trub is eligible for extension after his 4th year (following 2020 season) 2. And his plays like a franchise level QB and we have made the playoffs, too early to tell.
Then under this scenario I could easily see him get 30M or more per year.
Maybe Pace and Fangio want an edge rusher group y committee where all 4 are rotational?

That's a bridge to cross in 2020 when we can opt in on his 5th year option or extend him then. No matter how you slice it he ours 'til 2022.
Here's Miller's deal and it averages just over $19 mil per year with $70 mil gtd. Mack is looking to top that now.
Mack is gonna play under his 5th year option this year unless they extend him and if not he becomes a UFA in 2019. If by then he's a guy who could help put us in a SB I'd say jump on him but I suspect that won't happen. If we have to pay top dollar anyway why give up booty for him now when we aren't a championship caliber team yet?

I think some of these writers envision the Bears being one or two (maybe 3) pieces away from deep playoff runs. If Mack were 25 or 26 it would be a nobrainer but you make valid points against going after Mack.
