I'll just say that I don't see any way any of this years crop of rookie WRs is worth the #8 pick. That would be a major reach just as White was and I think we should avoid going down that road again.
Players like Wilson, Richardson, Lee, and Moncrief for example won't command the kind of money Evans just got and Robinson will use as leverage. It's hard to tell just yet how other team will evaluate him coming off his ACL tear. Some may see it as limiting what they'd offer and others may see him as a risk worth taking even if it takes $40-$45 mil guaranteed.
While the 2nd tier group doesn't have the kind of production Robinson does there are still some talented young WRs in that group worth looking at. As badly as we need to upgrade how we do that is key. This may not be the time to risk to heavily when both FA and the draft have ample talent one notch below the current #1 type guys.
It's gonna take more than just one pass catcher to make a difference.
Wonder what Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Sammy Watkins, Allen Robinson and other elite WRs now thinking.... Buccaneers’ WR Mike Evans agreed to a 5-year, $82.5 million extension that includes $55 million guaranteed.
Here’s how they look to me: they still look like 2nd tier guys
No question Evans’ blockbuster deal pushed up prices. It will push up prices for the 2nd tier too, just not as noticeably. Look....I get the risk. I understand the temptation to “play it safe”. I understand there’s a feeling of security in the notion of signing multiple WRs for the price of just one.
We have done that already. Last year we went into camp with a whole harem of such “bargain pickups”. We had Rueben Randle, Markus Wheaton, Kendall White, and Victor Cruz in addition to Meredith and White. Turns out that numbers aren’t a substitute for having at least some top-notch playmaking talent.
We did that already. We did a similiar thing for years on end during the Angelo/Lovie era after acquiring a young pro-Bowl QB who apparently didn’t need any weapons. The next few seasons are going make clear whether the Trubisky pick was the long term answer or not. Let’s give the kid a fighting chance. He had total garbage to throw to last season.
Team last year tried to get Jeffery back and offered more money, he didn't bite. The team has in the past brought in Mushin, and Roy Williams, and Brandon Marshal(via trade). They've tried a mix of way to find WR's through the years. At 80 mil I'm not feeling great on Robinson Lee or Richardson though. Wilson won't cost that much. Better off getting a high valued WR in the draft.
I'll be surprised if Robinson, Lee or Richardson come close to that kind of money. Robinson and Lee are very, very good...they are not however Mike Evans.

OK you two. No double teaming. No dog piles on soulman! LOLOL
Yes, but these are a more skilled and more productive 2nd tier guys with some upside. If ARob gets too pricey this may be were we fish.

That certainly may happen, no doubt about it. If rumors are true that Pace was pursuing Landry, I hope that bodes well for him pursuing Robinson aggressively. Neither of those guys were gonna be cheap and Pace surely knew that in advance. I also noticed that SF just spent a good chunk of change on Sherman so maybe they will pull back a little on Robinson.
Pace’s fate is ultimately tied to Trubisky as we have discussed before. If Mitch flops and the Bears remain stuck in suckville, the GM’s job is gonna get real precarious. I gotta believe Pace has multiple motivations to do whatever he can to maximize Trub’s odds of success, both for the team and his own career.

Falls off a cliff to me after Paul Richardson. I like John Brown...never healthy. I like Taylor Gabriel...but he's Albert Wilson to me, I like Donte Moncreif physically...but he's done next to nothing production wise.

Not that there are no other good WRs out there, but I see it the same way. Robinson or bust... And a nice bust is always a nice consolation prize...

No...not at all. Here's who I like thats available in order(and I'm open to flipping Watkins and Richardson):
Robinson Lee Wilson Watkins Richardson Taylor Gabriel Moncreif Inman Jaron Brown John Brown
To me if we need to get at least 1 of the top 4, and ideally two.

The more I've read and researched the more I like Richardson if no deal can be made with Robinson. He's a little smaller than I'd like to see but once he got a shot at starting he put up a year's worth of some pretty nice production. And if we have some bigger WRs like Meredith, White, and Inman (if he returns) it's not as if we lack size outside.
Moncreif has had to deal with a less than idea QB situation himself, and I like his size, but he's not all that different than those we have now unless Pace likes him more than say Inman and he decides to sign him instead. What about Marqise Lee? He's only 6' tall as well but a little heavier than Richarson. I'm sure JAX would like to keep him but he's not tagged.

Even Richardson, while decent, is no great shakes to me. I know John Brown well from following him here in AZ. Started out like gangbusters and then quickly fizzled, constantly hurt--I'd pass. Wilson or Gabriel either one is fine, prefer Wilson since he knows Nagy's O.
