OL with the 1st seems like a smart move. You have to protect your QB. The last OG I wanted as much as Nelson was DeCastro who ended up with the Steelers.
Notice how DeCastro was taken in the later rounds though, 8 just seems absurdly high for a OG. If they hadn't extended Leno then LT at 8 is more then a real possibility. Trade back into the teens(possible depending on how the draft falls) and OG/RT becomes a possibility.
Draft Barkley and trade Howard for 2 or 3. Barkley will be special and take heat off Trubisky.
That would be a dumb move. We already have a 1,000+ for 2 years each and you would gamble that away for a "chance" of getting someone better then Howard?
I rather go after Quenton Nelson then Barkley. At least Nelson would replace Sitton or Long who both are in the 30+ already...
Definitely agree with you on this one. Look at every single position on the Bears roster, RB is about the ONLY position where we are set with proven talent. No way I’d do aft Barkley, if he turns out to be a bust that sets us back big time. We have our RB. If Barkley is there when we pick I’m selling to the highest bidder, because there will be a few teams looking to upgrade at RB. I don’t see how Indy passes on him though so I doubt he’ll be there.

I agree. I keep reading “generational talent” and “head and shoulders above” regarding Nelson.
I really hope so! He kinda has to be THAT GOOD to justify taking a guard in the top-10.

If he is that good you still don't take him? If no trade down exists do they take a lesser player just because you 'can't draft a guard early?" Is any CB with a first round grade better than taking a 'generational talent' just because the 'generation talent' is a guard? Weren't we told by an un-named poster that you always take the elite-generational-talent when you can (mutliple threads about drafting DEF players early)? With the FA market the way it is multiple teams might be able to solve their QB problems and not want to trade up. So again, does Pace draft a player with a lower grade simply because he's not a guard?
I'm not saying you have to take him, I really don't like when players are labelled elite-one-on-a-generation-future-HOF-multiple-PB/AP even before they are drafted. But I also want Pace to add the best talent he can at any position. So, again, how low do you go as a GM before you just draft the guy with the highest grade even if he is a guard?

Who said anything about taking a lesser talent, there is going to be a lot of talent at 8? Josh Johnson that CB out of Iowa, Calvin Ridley/C Sutton, possibly A key, those guys are "lesser talents"?
I would serioulsy question anyone that claims generational talent on a college player. It's amazing how many guys get those labels before the draft and don't live up to them.

Lesser talent was not the right way to say what I wanted. I know that there will be players at #8. Its just an academic question I have. I guess it comes down to how you answer the question: Is the best NFL G more valuable to an NFL team than the best CB? (pick your position if you don't want to limit it to just Gs and CBs.) Its also not as simple as that either. Nothing ever is because of--draft position, multiple players at one position ranked together (ie multiple CBs but only 1 G), team needs, etc.
I really soured on the 'elite-once-on-a-generation-multiple-BP/AP-future HOF' label last draft season when Garrett was declared 'the best player ever to come out in the draft and a must have for any team wanting to win in the NFL.' Yep, 0-16. Nice draft. Whenever I see that now I think of Donald the Rams DT, there is an elite talent, once in a generation talent, but didn't get to the playoffs until his team implemented a real NFL OFF. Once the Browns have a QB that DEF might be scary, but until then.....
Weren't many mad that Kyle Long was drafted in the first round not too long ago? Now we're talking about drafting another guard in the top 10?
Don't get me wrong I take him over a RB in this draft but with how much this team needs. Is wasting a pick on a guard really worth it? Will he have that huge impact we need a top 10 pick to have?
Would Nelson have a bigger impact then say a Roquan Smith? Arden Key?

QB Pass Rusher/LT WR/RB/CB/S/DT NT/OG/OC/TE
Kickers
I like it. and yes, please don't draft a kicker, please.....

Long wasn't taken in the top 10, he was drafted 20. And people were mad, not b/c he was a OG(although some were) it was b/c of his lack of experience in the college football and the drug issues he had previously, and there, precieved, clearly better options at the time, Rhodes, Floyd, Trufant, Olgetree, Slay were the ones I remember most really wanting.
stop w/the "wasting a pick" thing, outside of FGK or P, or drafting a player w/a known serious injury(Chris Williams) there is no 1st round "wasted pick".
