Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham has played out the four-year, $40 million contract he signed with the Saints in 2014, a year before they traded him to Seattle. Now he appears likely to find his third NFL team.
Graham is “really unlikely” to stay in Seattle in 2018, the Seattle Times reports.
It will be interesting to see what kind of market there is for Graham in free agency. Although he’s still a good tight end and caught 10 touchdown passes in 2017, he hasn’t had the same kind of production in Seattle that he had in New Orleans, and he’s 31 years old.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson considers Graham a close friend and undoubtedly wants to keep him, but Wilson probably wont get his wish.
I would take a flyer but he would have to accept a massive paycut, role in the O, and be a bridge TE until Shaheen is ready. If he isn't willing then pass. I hope the Lions let Ebron go but that is fool's gold.
If we got him at the right price under a short term contract. He is still moderately productive and I can only think of maybe one or two other TEs that I think would be able to mentor Shaheen any better. If we brought in a worthless Sanchez who we are afreaid to put on the field, we can drop some coin on someone that can mentor Shaheen and actually be productive while doing it
You know how we talked about "overpaying" in the Fuller thread? Well, this is a situation in which I would not overpay. Graham is on the downside of his career and we have a guy very similar to him athletically (Shaheen) that needs PT to develop. It would have to be a quite "team-friendly" contract for me to be all that interested.
OTOH, if we could find a 3-down or blocking TE with more upside than Sims, that I would strongly consider.
With what happen to Miller and having a big problem of having no weapons for Trubs why not?
Shaheen is Miller's replacement and is a Miller clone in terms of playing style. If Graham came cheap, sure I'd consider it, but I wouldn't pay big money for a 31 yo receiving-only TE on the decline when we aren't in a position to "make a run" in 2018.

I agree about not overpaying for him but if he's willing to come cheap I see no reason not to look at the situation.
No offense but no team is ready to make a run until they are.
Rams Eagles
Two great turnarounds with the help of some new coaching staff and FA pickups. If we play our cards right we might have the ability to make a run for it as well.
