no... that's fine but for some reason I thought that I had read (way back then) that Phillips had an effect on Ballard passing up the interview. Holding out for the right situation is not mutually exclusive from not wanting to work with Phillips if that made it the wrong opportunity. I'll see if I can dig anything up.
Here is something I dug up that I remembered from that period.
“Chris may have scared them a little bit. Chris knows the problems that are within the organization and had ideas on how to clean them up, and I'm hearing that they didn't necessarily like hearing that."
Now... it's anybody's guess what he felt those problems were but I also remember that someone leaked it was the organizational structure around Phillips.
I really thought Ballard was a smart guy which is why I wanted him to become our new GM back then. He sure sounded like he wanted to clean up Halas Hall and didn't care much for Philipps and the McCs.
I guess we'll have to wait another 2-3 years to see if he can turn the Colts around.
Ballard had passed on several opportunities before taking the Colts job. From G.Gaberial (2015 story):
"Ballard declined the opportunity to become the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ general manager last offseason, and passed on interviews with the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles this week. According to Gabriel, who worked with him from 2001-10, Ballard will continue holding out for what he believes is the right situation."
Not trying to make a point here, just pointing it out.

Oh, but that can't be. Teddy is sooooooooo.....universally respected around the league. Why, other team will barely make a move before seeing what Teddy does first.

I seem to recall the same and I'm not at all shocked if it scared them off.
They truly are like a family of alcoholics and what Ballard proposed was like an intervention. Teddy most likely is and always will be their enabler. He's the guy who keeps showing them how to get rich without winning so they don't. Oh, GMcC talks about just like drunks I know who keep saying the need to stop drinking but they don't.
Nothing changed!
Come to think of it they're very Irish so they probably are a family of drunks. The Irish side of my family sure as hell is.

Toub is a ST Coach. Those Coaches work with what they get and have. They can adopt, they can lead but they are more the Motivators and need good coordinators. Toub should be high on everybodys list.
Here’s a handful of coaches who have started out on special teams: Marv Levy, Bill Cowher, Bill Belichick, John Harbaugh, Dick Vermeil and Mike Ditka. All of them have reached or won the Super Bowl.

I read that a few weeks ago somewhere too. I would be 100% fine with Toub here. And I'm thinking he may be the best fit here. But I sure wouldn't diss him because he isn't some guru QB Whisperer guy like DeFilippo.

That right there is my only point. If they interview him and think that someone else is better but to narrow your HC to people only on offense, I think is stupid. So of course that would be right up our alley.
