Like everyone else, I just have to hope Pace gets it right, and whoever he picks we have to trust he got it right and I will be behind, but I would be disappointed if he did not speak to Toub. Whether or not he picks Toub, I trust he gets it right, but I hope he at least compares him with other candidates before he makes a decision.
I totally agree, BIH. I feel like we may be very surprised by who Pace ends up hiring. In a good way. I've gotta figure Toub at least gets an interview. And I would not be surprised if he got hired. He's not the glitzy pick, but he could still be the best HC hire this year. Regardless of how this all goes, it is kind of exciting right now. I'm pumped to see what's going to happen between the HC hire, the staff hirings, FA & then the draft. Could be pretty good... Toub has to have a shot at least, right?
If he gets an interview and does not get picked, I'll be ok with it. He is my choice but I have to truest that Pace gets it right. If they do not even interview him, I will be disappointed.

I've seen some stuff that Toub has a really solid relationship with Chris Ballard (Indy GM) and may be very high on Ballard's short list to replace Pagano.

I saw the same. That is why I predicted he would go to Indy. Ballard was one of the guys that passed on interviewing for the GN with the Bears because of Teddy. He had been here before and knew from an insiders perspective what it would be like working as a GM under Phillips.

I don't know if Jim Irsay as a whole lot better than George and Sweaty Teddy. He has a real history of conflict and outrageous behavior with his employees.

Given the choice of Irsay or George, it is easy. George every time.
Really feeling like this will be Toubs year to be a HC, but probably not for the Bears. We are fixated on an offensive guy. Think he goes to Indy.
If we watch the order of interviews that may give us an answer. Wilks is being interviewed to at least meet the requirements of the Rooney rule. I think DeFilippo and Shurmur are two offensive guys they want to evaluate quickly and decide whether either or both are a fit in case they have to move fast. I think these two are high on many teams list.
Toub and a few others are probably less of a hot commodity or maybe Toub did not express much interest if we contacted his agent. IMHO most teams are looking to find this years Sean McVay especially of they have a young QB or plan to draft one so they'll be competing hardest for the younger offensive types. McDikhead will be in that mix as well.

Ballard had passed on several opportunities before taking the Colts job. From G.Gaberial (2015 story):
"Ballard declined the opportunity to become the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ general manager last offseason, and passed on interviews with the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles this week. According to Gabriel, who worked with him from 2001-10, Ballard will continue holding out for what he believes is the right situation."
Not trying to make a point here, just pointing it out.

no... that's fine but for some reason I thought that I had read (way back then) that Phillips had an effect on Ballard passing up the interview. Holding out for the right situation is not mutually exclusive from not wanting to work with Phillips if that made it the wrong opportunity. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

Here is something I dug up that I remembered from that period.
“Chris may have scared them a little bit. Chris knows the problems that are within the organization and had ideas on how to clean them up, and I'm hearing that they didn't necessarily like hearing that."
Now... it's anybody's guess what he felt those problems were but I also remember that someone leaked it was the organizational structure around Phillips.
