Something to cheer you up @soulman .
Aldo Soto@AldoSoto21 KC Chiefs ST coach, Dave Toub, is "at or near the top" of the #Bears interview list according to @allbrightnfl. 4:12 AM - Dec 20, 2017
Only downside is the age (55 already). Personally I'd rather go after a 35-45 year old, but since Pace clearly isn't going to hire a defensive-minded coach, Toub is my favorite of all non-defensive candidates.
Age is only how we keep track of when we were born. It seems to me that Dave Toub is a young 55 and John Focks an old 62 and nearly 63. I'm only interested in getting the right HC for the Bears not a HC of just the right age.
David Shaw from Stanford is also high on my list and he's 45 played under Bill Walsh and was OC under Jim Harbaugh. We aren't gonna get Harbaugh but Shaw may be close to it. He's also had 10 years of previous NFL asst. coaching experience.
Be nice to have both of them but I don't see that happening.
I believe Toub is smart enough as well to let the OC and DC do their job and call the plays. A true overseer.
I would tend to agree and to that I would also add a good teacher and tactician. The biggest challenge with a Toub hire would be in his ability to hire that top OC and DC and propel this team to a new level. That's what will loom biggest in his interview and his prospects. Can be assemble the right staff.

Toub's years in the NFL should make hiring staff easy. That doesn't mean that staff won't realpolitik the guy, but those things are a problem with all staffs.

I just read somewhere, maybe on my twitter feed that Toub has in fact plenty of personnel potentials he has be-friended over the years. I like his no nonsense approach and straight shooter attitude like Fangio.
My real only fear changing Coaching staff is the dreaded switch to 4-3 again. I know we run hybrid stuff but still, we do not need another 2 year excuse of turn over of D because of the switch. No more excuses!!!

+1 These coach changes really hurt, because it's always a multi-year setback. But I think fans would be okay just having steady improvement from what we now have. Even a .500 season next year, under a new coach, and showing improvement, would be feel pretty good. I'd feel better than I do now with the crapfests we have had over the years with Trestman and Fox. Then maybe the 2nd year under the new coach we get 9 or more wins. Just show improvement. LOL, I realize that may be a pipe dream. But it would sure feel better if we could attain that, while steadily showing improvement. Is that too much to ask of the Bears?

This is how I saw it also. He has been around many years and is well respected. In the years and on the teams he has coached, he has made many friends, many who have gone on to be coordinators. he is sharp. He knows who is good and he has been waiting a long time for this opportunity. When he gets it, he will take his best shot.
