Bears aren't bad enough to get a Top5 pick. They might be even able to finish outside the Top10. Consider that a good Season, because you see improvement where it matters (WINS).
This is where the 'tank if you aren't in the playoffs' crowd loses their intellectual honesty. We all remember from the past few years that unless you are in the playoffs you should lose all your games for the higher draft picks. Remember the self-congratulating about the meaningless win over 49ers? Well, unless a miracle happens (and it might have with Rogers being out) the Bears aren't making the playoffs so according to their wisdom what should the Bears be doing? Thats right, losing the rest of their games.
But they can't argue that anymore can they? Even though they swore up and down that is was the only and best thing to do. Why can't they claim that anymore? Pick a reason or all of them:
(1) Fox will be fired, leading to (2) Loggains being fired and Mitch having to learn a new OFF system and (3) Fangio also walking in the turnover of staff.
(4) It also means that Pace doesn't know how to build a team since its now 3 years into the 'rebuild' and there has been no progress in terms of wins, which in spite of what everyone says is the only measuring stick that matters. "You are what your record says you are." (5) Also means Mitch isn't progressing
So, playoff or tank crowd....which is it now? Flip-Flop-Flip-Flop....
OK, cellar dweller report for Week 10 not counting MNF.
1. Cleveland 0-9 2. SF 1-9 3. NYG 1-8 4. Indianapolis 3-7 5. Bears lead 5 other teams based on SOS and are 5th at 3-6.
I think we might end up 5-11 with a 5th to 7th pick which should net us an impact Day 1 starter or a low 1st and mid 2nd on a trade down. I go with edge rusher at the moment and have my eye on Clemson's Clelin Ferrell on a trade down as he is slowly climbing the charts and is a clone to Violence. Power and speed on the edge and good run defender.

Agree with everything you wrote. The only silver linings left are that Fox/Logg are now surely fired and we are headed to yet another top-10 pick.
A convincing "turned the corner" moment will have to wait at least until next September.

Apparently I was dead wrong on SOS. According to one site we are actually at number 9. See below:
2. San Francisco 49ers: 1-9, 0.5448 SoS
3. NEW YORK GIANTS: 1-8, 0.5241 SoS
4. Indianapolis Colts: 3-7, 0.4828 SoS
5. Cincinnati Bengals: 3-6, 0.4690 SoS
6. Denver Broncos: 3-6, 0.4828 SoS
7. Los Angeles Chargers: 3-6, 0.4861 SoS
8. Houston Texans: 3-6, 0.5102 SoS
9. Chicago Bears: 3-6, 0.5379 SoS
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3-6, 0.5625 SoS
I have to hope Cincy, Denver, LAC all win so we can jump up to 5 or 6 because I think we lose this next game.
2018 NFL Draft: Bears hold top-10 pick after loss to Packers By: Bryan Perez | 48 minutes ago
So much for looking forward to a competitive second half of the 2017 season with playoff hopes and division championship aspirations.
After Week 10’s loss to the Packers, Bears fans are forced to change their focus to the NFL draft as the silver lining in another disappointing season. Wins matter this year, especially as the franchise tries to change the culture of the locker room with Mitchell Trubisky under center, but losses mean a better draft pick, which is the best way to rebuild any struggling franchise.
At 3-6, Chicago currently holds the 10th pick in the first round, a slot that will be right in the sweet spot for a first-round wide receiver or offensive lineman.
According to NFL.com, the top-10 draft order after Week 10 is:
Cleveland Browns (0-9) San Francisco 49ers (1-9) New York Giants (1-8) Indianapolis Colts (3-7) Cincinnati Bengals (3-6) Los Angeles Chargers (3-6) Denver Broncos (3-6) Cleveland Browns (via Houston Texans, 3-6) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-6) Chicago Bears (3-6)
The Bears are in a cluster of three-win teams in the top ten and may find themselves selecting in the first five picks for the second consecutive year.
Free agency will play a part in what direction the Bears go in the first round, but the obvious need is on the offensive side of the ball. Chicago will never reach its maximum potential without providing Trubisky a game-changing receiver on the outside.
