Fox had this guy on the Broncos in 2014. He's just a guy, but that was looking more and more like what Gould became.
justanotherbearsfan9, i know it's a joke to everyone but K is still a special athlete. only 32 in the world start every Sunday in the pros. Gould had a long career here, and i hope he (along with EVERY player) had enough sense to save a large portion of his earnings considering the timeframe of his profession. I am not going to begrudge a guy for making more money than me because he has the talent (and most likely effort) to out earn me. i get someone with a lower paid job would likely be harder hit by termination but that guy also isn't required to nail 30y extra points 99% of the time to keep his job.
I have zero problem with players making big money. My only point is that Robbie is set for life. Good for him. And I feel bad for anyone who loses their job. I do. But there are people in this country who know REAL hurt, way beyond what Robbie Gould is going to experience. Worst case, Robbie collects a fat pension for life. There are people in this country who have lost jobs and are struggling to feed their families and keep their homes - and many have lost their homes... I have a co-worker having to sell the home just to pay the medical bills for their daughter. No fat pension there. No millions of dollars in the bank. Just a person humping 2 jobs trying to put food on the table and worrying about finding a place for the family after they lose their home.
If Robbie keeps himself in shape and his agent makes it known he still wants to play , he would probably be the first guy teams will contact if their own kicker is muckin it up . If not , and he decides he wants to stay retired , then he's had enviable career as far as kickers go , and one FULL of great moments & memories . Tks Robbie , you spoiled us and were one of the all timers .

+1 Well said. I wish him the best. He's had an amazing career.
Should have been done a few years ago. Dude's making way to much cash for what he's been the last few years. If nothing else he should have had competition brought in.
I posted it after the last pre season game. Stick a fork in him. He's done. Sad to see it, but we can't go into the season with a kicker who will cost us games.
I agree with JABF. I wanted Gould replaced in the offseason or at least competed against. Stupidly, they didn't do that and Gould's terrible PS performance proved them wrong. It's a little late now.
Who are they gonna get?
Who are they gonna get? Pace is a freaking Genius! He got a us a Pro Bowl G to kick. Think of the power in his leg!
Seriously, I did not see this coming. He is not at his prime for sure. Yes, probably overpaid right now, but man.... do we have a replacement?
Well I think my own feelings about it have been summed up pretty well by others and belli in particular. I guess it proves that no ones job is safe in the NFL when you're being paid $4 to do it if you fall short of expectations and there's no doubt that one missed PAT (another was blocked) and a missed FG in preseason were less than expected of a vet like Robbie.
Edit; Corrected stats to reflect on missed XP and one blocked and one missed FG as per NFL stats.
But this was a pretty cold move on the part of Fox and Pace and one that screams they'd completely lost their faith in him. IMHO it happened very quickly following the last game too or I believe they would have brought in other PKs and held a competition in camp. I get it but at the same time I also see it as a very knee jerk reaction and one that won't be a popular move in the minds of many Bears fans me included. I'm all for improving at any position but this move didn't improve a damn thing but the Bears bank balance.
My biggest gripe comes from the fact that historically Connor Barth is no better on kickoffs and has been less accurate than Robbie Gould has been over six years of his career. So what have we gained here? I'd say nothing except maybe $3.5 mil or so of cap space we didn't really need at the moment anyway and more cash in bank account which Ted Phillips always appreciates. So is this all about bringing in a PK who kicked well for just one year for Fox in Denver and but otherwise has been very average and been a warm weather PK his entire career?
We all have our opinions but based on some pure stats based fact this decision looks pretty ****ed to me.
PS: If anyone doubts their comparative stats I'd be happy to post them for everyone. Just ask!
Fox told Pace that since he only plans on scoring TDs and won;t have to punt this year, we really didn't need him any more. Fox has a lot of confidence!

I heard your avatar girl is our new kicker. She's got great extension.

We do but the problem with his replacement is that he's marginally worse than Robbie has been over the past 5 or six years so other than some cash and cap space what have we gained?
To be honest I'd trust Robbie Gould to work out his issue before I'd trust Connor Barth to nail game winning FGs in Soldier Field in November and December but apparently John Fox doesn't and he's the HC not me.

Soul, you talked about comparing them, but lets not compare last 6y, lets compare last 2y, thats enough to have a proper argument, because Robbie, like others is not getting younger, and in his case better
