it's even worse then... saying we only cut him because a better, not great guy just got available. This tells him, that he is done and sucks. If he is that important, you wouldn't say that we just cut him for 3 Million savings and he got replaced by a Player that may not be even better than him.
I understand what you are saying, im just trying to justify Pace as he is new at this position, and I think hes doing a good job overall

That is a completly different Topic. Overall I'm impressed with his work and his decisions. It takes some balls and is risky at times. It's just this time, I'd rather have less Information and less talking on why. We all know that Gould has missed more than a Kicker is allowed to miss and if he wasn't a Bears "Legend" (11 years and SB Roster + leading all time scorer) he would have been cut during last season. It's just he doesn't Need to speak it out loud.
On the peculiar timing of the release of Gould, which came Sunday night, a day after the Bears had submitted their initial 53-man roster
“We’ve signed Connor Barth. So, for us, it was just (a situation) where if a specific player becomes available and we know that we’re able to acquire that player, then this is something we need to entertain or discuss. So that’s kind of how it played out. When we knew this guy would be available for us, it made the switch a possibility.”
I wouldn't have said it this way. If Barth sucks, everybody will hold that against Pace. He should have said nothing much about the reasons why. Just thank Robbie and that you felt it was time to move on.
It seems like in his haste to explain what must have been a somewhat difficult decision "thank you Robbie" kind of got overlooked but it's business and sometimes the niceties are overlooked. I think it's pretty clear this was a John Fox driven decision more so than a Ryan Pace driven one. As I've posted before John Fox is not a patient kind of guy and in his presser he labeled Robbie's kicking "unacceptable".
Barth became available. Fox preferred Barth. Fox fired Robbie and hired Barth. End of story.
But what I want to re-emphasize is what I posted above. While Barth has a history of being very accurate (63 of 64) from the 20-39 yard range (a range where Robbie has missed more frequently) since his career accuracy is actually less than Robbie Gould's that would mean Barth has been less accurate than Gould at distances greater than 40 yards and much less accurate over 50 yards.
It's something to be aware of when we need a 50 yarder to tie or win a game.
EDIT: This little inaccuracy stated by the Bears deserves correcting. According to NFL stats the difference between Robbie and Barth on FGs of 40 yards and less is exactly 1 in 64 attempts. That's correct only 1. His accuracy is not .984 as the Bears have stated but rather .952 vs Robbie's .942 and that amounts to 1 FG in 64 attempts for each. So once again John Fox is blowing some smoke up our asses as usual and I prefer my smoke intake to be oral as opposed to anal. This was more about a $4 mil plus cap hit to save Pace some cap space and giving Foxy what he wanted than it was in reality a major issue with accuracy.
Here's a thought - if Barth really blows at kicking long FG's and the odds if him hitting one are like 15% - whats to prevent the Bears from training O'Donnell to try FG's of 50+yds ? Supposedly he has a strong leg right ? Plus it's something that would only be used in the most extreme emergency ( no other option , 4th down 1 sec left on the clock ). Sure it's never been done b4 but wtf I'm just thinkin out of the box and spitballin here . There has to be an 'emergency kicker' on the roster anyways right ?
- otherwise we're gonna see alot of pooch punts if we can't make it to the 30yd line anyways .

Nice idea but it's not gonna happen. The skills of a PK and Punter are very different. They haven't even attempted to use O'Donnell on kick offs and they're sure not gonna use him on long FGs blue. We can think out of the box as fans but NFL HCs and GMs don't think that way. They're pretty staunch traditionalists who play the best odds and O'Donnell as a PK isn't a fit.

Who's the Bears emergency kicker ? I haven't heard anything about it have you ?

No and other than maybe O'Donnell for a PAT or short FG I'm not sure they have one. I don't think many teams have a spare PK hiding inside a position player on their roster. For all I know it could be Cutler going for it on 4th and 1 and going for 2 point conversions because we don't have a spare PK if Barth is injured. We didn't when Robbie was hurt in 2014.
