I just realized how excited I am for Train Camp this year. I was reading a few articles on rookie mimi camp and it hit me, optimism for our Bears. At the half way point last year I didn't check in here or read articles on the crappy team, I lost interest. Now I want to see a good camp Qb competition. I know we are not winning tbe division this year, but I feel we might be trending upwards.

The team when Lovie was fired was old and had few young players capable of replacing those old high end talented players. The team is still trying to replace those guys, but the arrow is definitly trending upward.
Hicks/Goldman/Howard/Unrien are, as a hole, all better DL then the Bears at the end of Lovie's career Danny T/Freeman/Nick K are all, as a whole, better ILB's then we had at MLB at the end of Lovie's career McPhee/Floyd/Young/Houston are all better, as a whole, then the OLB's the Bears had at the end of Lovie's career. PrinceA/Cooper/Callahan/Demps/Jackson/Hall/Amos are, as a hole, better then the DB's Lovie had at the end of Lovie's career
OL is better w/out question then when Lovie was let go. RB's are probably equal WR's as a group might be a slight downgrade QB's are as a hole better, Cutler at that time probably still had a higher ceiling but I'll take a young rookie and a promising vet over Cutler and nothing behind him. TE's right now are better then Lovie's TE at the end of his career
This team might not win 8-10 games this year, but it's definitely looking better and for the first time in close to 10 years there is hope at THE position of importance, QB.

Well, I think the Bears will improve this season. Will they make the playoffs this year no. But I think they are trending up. Just as long Pace brings in players who give a damn.

The only group you say is a downgrade is WR and that is only a slight downgrade. Everything else is either the same or better. But you don't see us even getting the same results as equal all across the board. Why is that?

Youth and schedule. Again Lovie's teams were mostly 7-9 wins when the schedule was difficult. The level of talent the Bears have is about equal, but younger, the schedule this year is tough, so 5-8 wins seems appropriate for a young team lacking any HoF lvl talent, even if htat talent was getting old and losing steps.

not buying that at all Ric
So lovie didnt have 5 years of 7 to 9 wins with 2 years or 10 wins big macd inbetween them?
Lovie had an old and slower bu briggs tillman and kruetz and forte in his prime. But nothing behind them and no safeties or young up and coming wrs dlmen olmen qb or dbs
Fox doesnt have thr top end talent but does have hicks goldman the howards long young whitehair sitton cooper demps prince. And on the youth side has hall amos callahan nick k floyd shaheen and most imortantly trubs.
There is youth at all levels and on both sides of the ball. Per parcels and bill b(2 of the greatest coaches) anything you get from a rookie player is a bonus and you really dont know if a guy can play until their 3rd year. Ill take their word on that, if you want to question their word so be it. But i think that this is the year for those young dbs pace drafted to start showing something.
I glad to see some of you are so optimistic. I have a great deal of reservations, personally I think Fox is wrong HC for this team. Yes I know has had great success in the past, but past is the key word.

I'm more optemistic about Pace and the future then I am Fox. And I agree w/you I thought, and still do think Fox was the wrong hire for HC. I would have liked to see Gase hired as HC, would have put the emphasis on the qb and O which needed a complete overhaul at that time, and just now is really getting the attention it needs.
I mean I don't think it's really optimistic to say 5-8 wins for this team, if everything goes right.
