If it works, he'll be the GM for a long while; if it doesn't, no one will have to worry about him b/c he won't be around for another chance.
What team isn't? I think the first two picks were solid selections. Pace hasn't done anything to ruin my trust in him so I'm willing to see how it all shakes out.
That's what I am doing too... just going to watch his team perform. I am very excited about this year's team of young players. On one level, it's going to be exciting to watch all of the young players develop (not just this year's additions, but all 3 years of Pace's players).
+1,000 That is EXACTLY how I see it. I sure hope he gets it done here. I like the guy, and his vision for the franchise. I don't want to sound like a jerk here, but honestly I think a significant percentage of the Bears fans are not very bright, and they have no patience. It's all about instant gratification. No patience for Pace to build with a vision for lasting long-term success versus making fan-popular moves. And not all decisions are ever going to pan out. Pace will (and has) made some mistakes. But that doesn't mean he isn't a pretty sharp GM. Even guys like Belichick make their share of mistakes. But they make enough right decisions to have a perennial winning teams.
This will be Pace's 3rd season. That really isn't a long time.
To be honest, listening to 670 and espn 1000; and hearing stories about how chicago fans treat visiting fans, I think it's fair to say they are extremely football incompetent, and way to easily swayed by the local and national media. These assholes were booing Trub at the Bulls game last night, and boo'd Glennon during his trip to the Cubs. Bears fans make it as hard to root for this team at times as the Bears themselves.

You're dead on Ric. As I sat here yesterday thinking about this draft J was mind blown on how a huge amount of Bears fans (and the media) is reacting. If you think about it, the Bears are known as "the franchise that hasn't ever had a franchise QB" We have been bitching for years that we need a QB. We have a GM who made a move to get his QB, which is the same QB most had ranked as the best QB in this class. WE JUST LANDED WHAT MANY BELIEVE IS THE TOP QB IN THIS DRAFT AND BEARS FANS ARE COMPLAINING. WHAT TJE F@$&$&@$@!!!!!

They are acting like Trub doesn't compare to the recent past of top qb's drafted.
6.3 is hardly a massive drop off from the others drafted at the top, and is higher then Marriota/Bortles(if only slightly). He's right in light w/the top players, if only slightly rated lower. Watson/Kizer/Mahommes were all graded at 5.8 or lower. I would have gone back further, but it looks like they changed their scale from 100 pt to 10 pt, so it would have been a difficult to compare.

I mean, I get it. He was beat out by some not very good QBs. He only played one year. I don't want make light of that. Those are some pretty serious red flags. Bears fans can basically poo hoo that stuff, but they are important. He has some real question marks. But we got him to sit and learn and he has many of the tools that you really can't teach. We tried to get Jay to see the whole field forever. He is smart, but he could never get it. This kid has that. I'd say it is one of the very most important traits for a QB.
Right now, there are reasons to be concerned, but I see no reasons to be outright pessimistic. ALL of the QBs in this class had issues. All of them need a year or even two to learn, or they are going to be a bust. We brought him in and we are going to give him time. The Log is a pretty good QB trainer. I have my serious doubts, but they say Garcia helped Zak. I sure hope he brings that value because as a QB, he is bad. Bad even for a team like the QB needy Bears.
So at this point, I am optimistic. I am going into it with my eyes open knowing that he is far from a sure thing, but he is as good and probably better than all the other options, and with the #3 pick, this was the year to strike. I'm happy where we are and am really hoping that we start to see and hear signs that T is the real deal. If he busts, I hope it does not stop Pace from going full balls out mode on the next try. I like what he did, and it is how you get your franchise QB.

Sure there are red flags, but no more or less then other qb's drafted recently. One thing most people feel you cannot teach or teach out of is accuracy and ball security. And he has those. As you pointed out, he was in full field read Offense also, that's huge. He has things he needs to work on, and it might take 2-3 years for him to fully come into his own. BUT(big ole fatty Kimmy K butt) if he does work out, and he's a top 10 QB for the next 10 years, doesn't have to be Manning, Brady, Rogers, just Rivers, Big Ben, Eli, then he will be every bit worth trading what was essentially a 3rd rd pick, and 2nd round draft position; and will be looked back on as a steal.
The reality is the Bears don't believe they area 3-5 win team, and don't expect to be drafting top 5 again, so they took their shot at the one qb that graded out worth drafting there. And they did it w/out sacrafcing future 1sts, like just about ever other team that traded up to get a qb did. And they didn't sacrafice 2nd's either. They sacraficed picks that really don't have a large shot of becoming impact starters.

I agree. I like where we are. That really was my game plan if I was the GM. Get as high a pick as you can, turn it into the pick for the franchise QB, make sure he red shirts and get people around him that can make him good.
The only thing I would have changed was Watson for Trub, but in reality, it's just a personal preference based on Watsons ability to shine in big games and willingness to carry a team. I love those qualities. Who will end up being the better QB, I have no idea. I just like where we are at and want Trub to be a stud.

I agree, hell I had Trub as the 3rd best qb imo, but I'm not the GM, and I didn't put 60-100k(est per Polian during an interview w/670*i think*) hours research the players in this draft like he and his team did. If he thought Trub was the guy, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I looked at it like this: Watson's strengths were intangibles--Things like "leadership", "winning the big ones", etc etc. His weaknesses were accuracy, ball security, and arm strength. Trub was pretty much the opposite. He was known to be highly accurate, have an above average arm, ability to make reads, etc. His weaknesses were relative lack of starting experience in college, playing in a lesser conference against weaker competition, etc.
Pick your poison. My preference was clearly the pros/cons of Trub over the pros/cons of Watson. I think MT is a far higher ceiling QB prospect. I will say the following though:
I fully expect Watson will play and start before MT will. He is on a much more complete team, with a great D, who's in a weak division, and is a legit playoff contender (really just lacking a QB). I also fully expect that Watson, like Kap, Vick, Wentz, and RG3, will have early success until such time as enough tape has accumulated on him that opposing DCs learn how to defense him and exploit his weaknesses. Get ready for a lot of meatball Bears fans to be screaming that "Pace picked the wrong guy" and that "watson is lighting up the league and Trubisky can't get off the bench". I hope the Chicago organization is wise enough to ignore that noise and stick with the plan--Glennon is the 2017 starter and MT is for 2018 and beyond. The Bears aren't a contender this season and likely aren't even a 6th seed wildcard team. Don't rush this kid, who you invested much in to get, into the fray too fast before he is ready. Please.
Looking at the just completed draft, Pace went with Shaheen and Cohen in his next two picks after MT. I see that as giving Glennon a fighting chance to out-perform low league-wide expectations for the Bears team and put together a decent offense. If Glennon plays well and the team out-performs (say 8-9 wins), I could see him easily becoming trade bait next offseason for picks. Teams like AZ, Pitt, Jax, or Buffalo might be interested in a still young vet QB with 2 years left on a team-friendly contract, especially if their draft position is too low to get one of the top QBs of next years' class. If Glennon flops, then he's either a vet-backup for a year or released in 2018-2019.
I hope Bears fans and more importantly Bears coaching/FO will be patient with Trubisky and not rush him out there into a no-win situation. I also hope Glennon stays healthy enough that there isn't too much temptation to do so.
If it works, he'll be the GM for a long while; if it doesn't, no one will have to worry about him b/c he won't be around for another chance.
Im not sure what's the knock on Pace so far? And please don't give me that 'White' s*it. It was a solid pick at the time. This is his 3rd draft, and he already landed starters: Goldman, Floyd, Whitehair, Amos; decent reserves: Kwiatkoski, Bullard, Langford, jury is still out: White, Grassu (not his fault, injuries, could become very valuable) and Hall, Bush and Andre-Carson. +drafted a possible franchise qb! We didn't have anything like that in Chicago for ages.
Well lets take a look.
A QB with 13 starts, an injured DB, and 3 players from low ranked programs. All in all I like JA did a great job
