Bears inform first 3 players of their release Sep 3, 2015; By: Bryan Perez | 2 hours ago
The deadline for all teams to cut their 75-man rosters down to 53 is still about 24 hours away, but the Chicago Bears have started informing players of their fate.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears will be waiving wide receiver B.J. Daniels, guard Shelley Smith and defensive lineman Terry Williams.
Neither Williams, Smith or Daniels were expected to make the final squad, so their early release doesn’t come as much of a shock. Daniels, in particular, struggled in his attempt to transition to an NFL wide receiver and looked out of place on special teams throughout the preseason.
Williams flashed at times, but with the depth of the Bears’ defensive line and a tougher decision to come between Cornelius Washington, Will Sutton and Ego Ferguson, Williams was an easy cut to make.
The early release will help both players in their effort to find another job, as personnel departments can continue reviewing their tape to determine if they’d offer an upgrade over their back-end roster guys.
Let's try to keep the announcements of those players being released here in one thread if possible.
Ego must have done enough last night that if CWash is injured it's saving him from "the turk" so far. I'm sorry to see Williams get cut but if he clears waivers he's a guy I'd think they'd want to sign to the PS like they did last year.
My guess is Williams makes it through waivers and is placed on the PS again.
I saw that Biggs tweeted Ego and Sutton were on the trading block, so I'm betting the one that gets them the best offer is traded and the other makes the team. I cannot see how they don't go into the season w/at least 1 of those 2 on the team, even w/Corny and Bullard

I agree with everything you said but I can't imagine either of them netting us even a 7th rounder. Hope I'm wrong on that. I favor keeping Sutton and releasing Ego.

We don't do no stinkin 7ths. We only trade for 6ths. It is the Bears hallmark. We take a 6th.

Sutton has shown a lot last season and some of this pre season i could see a team wimming to give a 5th or 6th for him...he was a 3rd round pick a few years ago. Ego getting hurt last year scrapped his value bc most of his draft stock was on upside and he hasnt had the oppertunity to show it on this team.

This is more reason for additional players to be allowed on teams. If a team has depth at some positions you could keep them and use them as real trade bait for players where depth was required. It would actually make the bottom half of the lineup more interesting for fans as the year progressed it would be very fluid and require GMs to be fast thinking.

W/the way college is moving away from NFL style play, and w/no actual minor league(nfl Europe) they really should expand the rosters and PS rosters.
I like Murray from KC (ex: UGA) as a potential backup qb. Smart player, not necessarily an overpowering arm but I'd like us to grab him. Young guy who looks to have some upside in the right spot.
