I really think he's still to small, BIG heart just not big enough especially if the O line is going to be crap.
I don't know where you get the idea a RB has to be this big heavy guy, small a quick with beat a big dumb slow guy any day
I don't think Garrett Wolfe was very good at that but I agree. A big dumb slow guy has more momentum to overcome in a cut than a small guy, that makes him slower (physically, not mentally). Look at our great RBs, Galimore, Sayers, Payton, none were very big and heavy.
I think it's more the mental quickness. Observation, and identifying a hole then quickly getting into it before the bigger guys can. (Im Sorry that sounds like a porn movie.)
When Howard drops the hammer I hope he's wearing steel toe boots, but if he does drop the hammer what does that say about how he can hold on to the ball?
Seriously though, I think he's got a high ceiling and would like him to get on the 53. I would also like to see Lasike make it as well. I can imagine Lasike blowing up the d making holes for Howard. That would be sweet.
i would love a FB. seems very unlikely, crossing fingers.
If you look at a lot of our two TE formations last year, Miller played a lot of HBack. It looks like Laaike has decent hands and knows what do do with it after the catch, why not use him in a hybrid FB/HBack role.

They don't have to be big I understand that but, having some real girth in the NFL can go a long ass way to making some guys crazy good and most importantly durable. That's not to say they don't get hurt in the end even big Earl Campbell and Jerome Bettis come to mind that can hardly walk because of the games pounding they took through the years but, they sure could produce a thumping plus they were not slow big men.

All those Bears running backs you mention in their prime were bigger than Jacquizz Rodgers. Still I agree you don't have to be big but, in the NFL every extra pound and inch helps tremendously.
For those who didn't see the game, here is the play that Lasike made.
OH FACK YA!!!! I LIKE IT!!!
Important to keep in mind: this play happened with 10:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter. That DB Lasike chucked will not be in the NFL. If Lasike did something like this in the first quarter against the Browns or in any other PS game when he wasn't playing against 3rd stringers, I'd be stoked. In this case, meh. Notice how he tries to chuck the second DB after the reception and the 2nd DB takes the hit and makes the tackle.
That's not to say Lasike won't make the team (I don't know shit about him or how he fits with what the Bears want to do) but I'm not going to exaggerate one play he made against a kid who'll be searching the classified ads for a job come 3pm CST.
